Hi! I have a question about financial packages. I’m waiting on CMU, but I got a full ride from another school that I have to respond to by Monday. Is there any way I could get my financial package from CMU expedited? Does anyone have any advice on this? Thank you!

Waiting on BU, Eastman, Oberlin, Vanderbilt, NYU, MSM, Syracuse, Juilliard over here.
D got an email that NYU (Steinhardt) will release late afternoon on 3/26.
Here’s to good news for everyone!

Can you ask for an extension on the deadline to accept on the full ride offer?

Congratulations!

I am so glad that everyone is wound up like us!!! Waiting on merit from UNT music school and merit from Jacobs! Son is so sick of waiting that he asked if he can just commit to UNT!

Good luck to all! Fingers crossed!

Waiting on UMich merit (top choice if money wasn’t a factor) and a couple of Ivys, but after some soul searching and solid advice on here, my S will probably be going to UB (pretty much free).

I think Eastman is coming out today. My daughter, who is doing double degree, just received an invitation to the webinar for accepted students from U Rochester even though the decision supposes to come from Eastman.

Does anyone know when decisions will be coming out for NEC, Rice, Vanderbilt, or Oberlin?

Oberlin is tomorrow.

You most likely cannot get an expedited offer. HOWEVER, you should be able to get a delay in the request for a decision from the one school. By law (I believe) you should have until 5/1.

My suggestion would be for your kid to contact the school and say something to the effect that they are a top contender (assuming that is true…or could be true) and your kid has serious interest in them. Let them know that you are still waiting on one school’s financial offer and need at least two more weeks…and you will definitely follow-up at that time. I would keep that statement open ended…with a follow-up as opposed to a decision. Ask them if that is acceptable for your answer at this time as you are doing your best to respond to them and want to keep the offer open. If they say “no” (which I doubt) you can bring up the 5/01 time frame as law (but you’ll need to check into that as I can’t remember the rules). Hopefully this response will buy you the time that you need (and deserve).

Note that I’am not an expert on this. Still I suggest that you attempt to buy time. If other “experts” or your gut instinct differs, do what you think is best.

Agree with this.

Also, if I recall correctly @sun5h1ne is the student applying (not a parent) and is international perhaps without the benefit of seeing all programs in person due to the necessity of remote auditions.

In my opinion, @sun5h1ne can also include this factor in their conversation with the school offering full tuition to ask for an extension on the deadline to accept/decline.

It is not uncommon to ask for an extension.

My bachelor’s degree is in music (BMus in Horn Performance). I did not want to be a professional musician by the time I graduated. I never had trouble finding a job. I worked as an admin assistant at a law school, then an admissions counselor. I then got a master’s in social work - I had to take only one pre-req for that program (a biology class). Anyway, my point is that a degree is a degree - having a bachelor’s degree in any field puts you far ahead of the game and allows you to pivot to all sorts of fields.

Yes, but not into STEM. My kid is facing this decision right now. It’s hard.
