Clemson Admissions - Class of 2023 DISCUSSION

@Tuxrd2 I know they want students that take AP classes as that goes to rigor. However not sure they only care about 5s. If you attend they give you college credits for 4s and 5s and even some 3’s. Take a look at this chart

https://www.clemson.edu/admissions/undergraduate/documents/apcreditchart.pdf

I found this thread last night and we tried the hack for my OOS daughter this morning, realizing she received the enter activation code from acceptance letter message instead of undetermined one. So HOPEFULLY that means she’ll be receiving good news in the mail soon. Over the holiday break she decided this is her #1 choice and I’ve been anxious about her getting in since then. Her stats aren’t super high, but within top 25% of applicant ACT and GPA (per the CU admissions numbers) at a competitive high school here in Texas. Congrats to everyone who has already been accepted and best wishes to those still waiting to hear. It’s so nerve wracking. I’m just glad I found this thread and gave the CUID # a try. Hopefully our next step will be getting her in the housing queue. Now I need to find a thread on that!

@cegfraser - Sounds like you will be getting positive news soon! We are still waiting to hear for our son.

As far as housing goes, according to Clemson’s materials, housing priority is determined by when you applied for admittance. My son got his application in on August 1st which was the first day to apply.

What is the “hack”?

@catmomof3 Look around post #105.

Is the error code the same as “unable to determine acceptance status”? My thought was that everyone who was accepted should have had theirs change to the “enter activation code” message by now… worried.

Don’t worry - the message doesn’t change to “enter your activation code on acceptance letter” until the letter gets sent out. My son’s status changed on a Thursday and he got his Tigertown Bound envelop on Wednesday of the following week. If most of the letters go out in February, status won’t change until closer to that date. Good luck!

I still could not find the hack link. It just took me to housing. Not sure what to do.

@catmomof3
Use the link below. It will ask you to enter your XID # which can be found in an email you received that indicated your application was complete.

Once you enter the XID # it will either say “unable to determine your acceptance” OR something like “enter your activation code from your acceptance letter”

If it says “enter your activation code…” then you likely get an acceptance envelope in the next week.

@catmomof3
Also this is for the January wave of acceptances. There will be more waves as acceptances roll in. There was a November and December wave too. So "unable to determine your acceptance"is not a rejection.
This is just a way of letting you know if the big packet is on the way

@Tuxrd2 so, if you enter your XID, hit continue, and get a screen that says “Welcome to Clemson To continue The Clemson Username Setup Process please enter the following information from your acceptance letter.” and then is has a field to enter your activation code - then its likely your acceptance letter is on the way? Sorry if already posted, just trying to get clarity. Thanks for response.

@McLeanMadman
Yes. If you get to that screen “…from your acceptance letter” - then that means you are likely to get an actual acceptance letter soon. Most seem to be within a week.

This " hack" was uncovered on this forum last year. But there is no guarantee - but seems to hold up as true.

@Buck17 @Jrsygrl23 @cegfraser
Here’s hoping we get big envelopes in the mail today!! My mail doesn’t come until late afternoon, but my informed delivery shows 2 pieces they don’t have an image for. So far his acceptance envelopes haven’t shown up on informed delivery.

@cegfraser - would you mind sharing your child’s GPA and SAT or ACT? My triplets all have Clemson as their #1 choice too. We are OOS and my daughter is on the high end of stats (1360, 3.85) but my boys are mid/low average (1250, 3.40 amd 1210, 2.80) and I am a nervous wreck!!! Looking for any hope I can grasp on to. My one son does have extenuating circumstances (late ADHD diagnosis, HUGE improvement once diagnosed - post diagnosis GPA is 3.40). I have been praying and praying and doing everything I can think of to try to figure out their chances. Clemson told us that it will be an all or nothing situation - either all three get in or none of them get in. SO STRESSED OUT!

@4n2yrs Are you sure about that “all or none” thing? It seems bizarre that Clemson would treat three individuals as a unit instead of judging each on their own merits. It wouldn’t be fair to your daughter to be denied just because her brothers had lower stats.

I have younger twins myself, who are very different, though both high achieving, and I would hate for them to be penalized in any way for being a multiple.

@vamom4 That is what we were told. We visited Clemson twice (from PA) and the kids interviewed with two different admissions counselors and both said the same thing. They said that Clemson STRONGLY prefers not to separate multiples. They said they sort applications by birthdate and state to make sure they don’t miss sibling applications. I agree with not wanting my daughter to be held back because her brothers’ stats aren’t as good as hers but I also see the other side of what it would do to them if they got a split decision. In a perfect world, I would love for two of them to get admitted to Clemson and then have their brother with ADHD Bridge to Clemson so he could start at TCTC, but there is no way to apply to Bridge. Plus, we are OOS so I don’t know if he will be offered Bridge.

Now, all that said, we were also told on our first visit to Clemson that “Clemson wants students who really want Clemson.” One admissions counselor told us to keep in touch - email, call, stay on their radar - because Clemson really likes demonstrated interest. We drove down to Clemson - TWICE - from PA (24 hours round trip plus hotels plus time off from work) and then I saw on some website that demonstrated interest means NOTHING at Clemson. So, who knows. I don’t know what to think anymore. All I know is that in my heart of hearts, I genuinely am positive that my kids belong at Clemson. All three of them. Fingers crossed.

@4n2yrs - I so hope they get in, but do they have other option that will make them happy?

That seems so unfair to treat them as one. I feel like that should be a choice somewhere on the application for multiples.

@4n2yrs I truly think you must have misunderstood.

And just in case they got the impression from YOU that you wanted all in or none in, I would let admissions know that you would prefer each child to be judged as individuals, just like everyone else.

If your daughter thinks it’s all or none, and she ends up denied, it would be natural for her to resent her brothers for potentially ruining her chances. That could be very damaging to their relationship. :frowning:

@4n2yrs A lot of us are pulling for you. I have no way to know, but think they may admit all 3. However, unless your daughter is in the top 10% of your class, my guess is you won’t hear until February 15, so try not to stress out. I know it’s easier said then done. :slight_smile:

I don’t know when the website was updated, but noticed that for OOS students, Clemson lowered the SAT score required to be eligible for a scholarship (from 1360 to 1340). I’m guessing that’s to put in line with the latest SAT/ACT concordance tables. (1340 SAT is equivalent to 29 ACT).

Just to offer some peace of mind, my daughter is a high stat kid who is in the top 1% of her class and has not heard a peep from Clemson yet. I think the bulk of students, even high stat ones, will not hear until February 15th.
