@4n2yrs Do your kids each have other schools that they would be happy to attend? It’s never a great idea to love a school that much. I know it’s hard for teens, but this whole process is so unpredictable. I hope they all get in, but if not, there are other similar types of schools that might have better admissions odds. Good luck.
@Tea4Two Thank you for that information! What a relief.
@Tea4Two and others with high stats. If you don’t hear by the end of the month, I think I’d contact Admissions to make sure something wasn’t overlooked or missing with the application. I can only go by what I’ve seen on the forum, but the posts regarding acceptances with scholarships last year were in the November to January timeframe. Obviously the vast majority of students/parents aren’t posting here so that doesn’t mean scholarships aren’t going out in February also. And of course this year could also be different from past years.
My OOS daughter’s ACT was 32 and GPA 3.85/on 4.0 scale (her school doesn’t rank), and all but 3 classes throughout HS were either honors or AP. She had a good mix of extracurriculars and volunteer work. Plus we had lived overseas for 4 yrs, so our daughter attended an international HS for 9th/10th gr in the 'burbs of London, which probably made her stand out a bit just for variety’s sake. Like many other OOS students, we hedged our bets by making an official visit to Clemson in spring and fall of '18, including a tour of the business school since she listed pre-business as her major. We really hope this January wave of acceptance letters hit the mailboxes soon!
I don’t want to scare anybody here, but I do want to share… we had a really BAD Clemson experience with our older daughter that’s now in grad school at Wake Forest. We passed the Feb 2012 decisions date and didn’t hear anything, so we called Clemson to check on her status with the admissions office. Lo and behold, somehow her app was completely overlooked even though it was complete. And unfortunately, the only recourse was to add her to the wait list. She was never offered a spot and ended up elsewhere for her undergrad degree even though she was really interested in Clemson. So if you feel like something is off or you just want to be sure of things, I’d give the admissions office a call to verify that your child’s app is in the mix for consideration.
@cegfraser I’m surprised after the fiasco with your older daughter your younger daughter would apply. She must have really loved Clemson!
Does anyone know when decisions are released for those who didn’t meet the priority deadline? Clemson wasn’t on D’s radar until mid-Dec. App went in shortly after. Just wondering when we might hear.
BTW I just called admissions to ask about top 10%. My son is in the top 10.6% of his class haha. They round down if your child is 10.49% or less. He is pulling in high grades for fall senior semester so I called to see if I should submit his transcript for fall if he happened to climb into the top 10% after grades are posted next week. The admissions counselor said they go off of the transcript submitted initially, so no need to send it in even if he climbs. I may just send it in anyway if he makes it! ;))
Has anyone figured out what determines when you receive your acceptance? Also, do they send denials before the February decisions date or only acceptances? When I clicked on that link it said put in code from acceptance letter. Hoping for a nice big packet sometime sooon!!!
Has anyone received the packet from the January wave yet?
I have a 4.0 and a 1370 Sat, many many extracurriculars, OOS, Major is language and international trade! Good luck everyone
I just did the activation link thing and typed in my ID and now it says “To continue The Clemson Username Setup Process please enter the following information from your acceptance letter” does that mean I got in???
It used to say unable to determine acceptance status
Yes, it is speculated that it means you are in, there is yet to be anyone to say otherwise thus far
@cegfraser Thank you so much for sharing that information. My daughter will be emailing her admissions officer tomorrow to make sure there isn’t an underlying issue. I very much appreciate your sharing that.
@xn3mom Thank you for that information. I very much appreciate your sharing that.
@letmeinples Not here in Maine. I noticed the message change Friday morning, but no packet yet. Not sure how long it takes.
@4n2yrs - We’re in PA too and have heard nothing. My daughter has a 1370 SAT/31 ACT and a 4.1 gpa. Lots of APs and Honors and strong activities, leadership, and not a peep so far either way. She applied in late October. Hoping to hear something soon! Good luck to your triplets!
I just learned (actually heard it before and then forgot) that the majority of SC high schools have a weighting system that awards not only for honors and AP but also for each number grade. Meaning a 95 is worth more than a 94. A 96 is worth more than a 95 and so on. With every change in number grade, you get a different weight value. The highest value you can achieve is an 100 in an AP class which gives you a 6.0.
You can get some pretty high GPA’s with that scale. At my school the highest value you can achieve is an A in an AP class giving you a value of just 5. Huge difference in scale.
So that’s why they must really look at rank for OOS especially as their main data point.
My daughter got her acceptance right before Christmas. Nursing. She had a 1,360 SAT, about a 4.6 weighted GPA and top 6% of high school class. The letter said she would get merit OOS scholarship but we don’t find out the amount until February.
