Clemson Class of 2028 Official Thread

Agreed and they are losing students because of it.

I got $40,000 from Baylor, $34,000 from Furman, and a full tuition scholarship from Stetson…at this point I’ll probably choose one of them so I can move on with the housing process even though Clemson has been my dream school for forever.

D24 has narrowed it to 5 schools and we are stuck waiting on merit to figure out what might be feasible. Clemson is probably in her top 2 but one of the least likely for her to afford but we know she’s getting some merit. I promised her we would wait to decide after both Clemson and South Carolina release merit decisions.

Housing is a big thing I’m worried about, with some schools extending deposits deadlines and some not it makes deciding in April seem very late to get to housing anywhere

I know! That’s what I’m worried about too! The FAFSA should have been left alone if they weren’t ready to roll out in October with all parts complete. It’s ludicrous they were still working on it as we all entered our info and now to send out mid-March? Insanity! It has now caused so many delays with schools sending their full financial aid offers which makes people have to wait to make a final decision and potentially missing out on housing altogether or not getting to choose where to live on campus.

They say housing is guaranteed but it doesn’t seem like it

Clemson housing priority is based on the application date, not on the date of enrollment. And housing is guaranteed for all freshmen.

It’s definitely guaranteed for freshmen, I think it’s actually mandatory, housing choices are based on when applications were submitted/honors/llc, my daughter accepted late April and got into her llc dorm on the first day of choosing.

Did everyone get their acceptance packages yet?

I got mine yesterday, accepted RD

Some schools rolled out merit packages yesterday which was a surprise !
We had no mention of merit in our EA acceptance but I called admissions and they said that does not necessarily indicate we aren’t getting anything .
Good luck to all waiting !

Do you know which ones and how notified?

University of South Carolina was one of them. It’s in the portal but they should’ve also sent an email

Hi… yes Delaware and South Carolina sent out emails to look in the portals

Sorry I thought you meant schools within Clemson.

Oh my apologies ! Bit the calling admissions part was for Clemson !

I was thinking the same thing. More kids are applying to a larger number of schools. I have no idea how colleges can estimate how many will actually attend any more.

That’s the problem. Because there are so many applicants, it is hard for students to predict, which makes them apply to more schools, which makes it even harder on the schools to choose, making it harder on the students, etc. My own daughter, a 4.0 UW with 32 ACT was told not to count on our home school Wisconsin. Schools could stop this by not accepting the common app and requiring a different essay, but then they don’t get thousands of application fees.

Agreed. While fees likely help cover cost to review in some cases, my gut tells them they like promoting a lower acceptance % which helps position their schools as more elite.

The acceptance rates are a farce and every year they are even more misleading, as are the ā€œAdmitted statsā€. Below is a great article with a few example schools, but the logic is the same for most of these state publics these days. Notice that schools don’t report or publish stats for enrolled students, and they hide yield rates as best as possible; although yield is how rankings are determined.
