Clemson Class of 2029 Official Thread

I’ve had kids at a lot of colleges and I’m not familiar with that term, but I think they are traditional style with communal bathrooms, maybe a sink in the room.

yes- hotel style rooms (hallway with multiple 2-person rooms) and common bathroom with multiple shower/toilet stalls. not at all sure why they call it that…

that is unusual, hopefully they reach out to correct that! Our definite experience 2 years ago was that my son was accepted EA but waited until April to commit, until hearing from CA schools. However, because he applied EA in September, he still had pretty good priority for housing selection and set the priority for his ‘group’ (of 2). Nevertheless, in spite of having options for selecting suite-style dorms, he had his heart set on the shoeboxes for all the reasons I mentioned, and he had a great experience there. The dorms are older than some of the suite style, but not so bad.

Thank you (both for the explanation of “wet style” and this reassurance). I think that he’s going to want the shoeboxes, so hopefully it won’t be any kind of an issue. Truly, he really wanted to be in the honors dorm, but he’s been waitlisted for the honors program and won’t find out until after May 1 if there’s a spot for him. I’m a little concerned about just how social the shoeboxes are - he’s not great at planning his time out now, and I’m worried that a more social dorm makes it just that much harder to focus and get work done, but he’s going to have to figure that all out at some point.

no problem. The honors dorms are nice for sure! Shoeboxes are right across the street - same dining hall. I was worried about the same and my (honest) sense is that my son had a good time (but stayed out of trouble), found his way after an initial and normal adjustment period to figure out what college workload/studying is like, has made some really good friends (2 from Clemson originally came out to CA and stayed with us the summer after 1st year), and overall has been doing relatively well and beginning to focus more on next steps and how to get there. So, overall it’s been the normal growth trajectory. Just waiting for S25 to decide now-

It isn’t a no-no to ‘accept’ and place a deposit, and then to decline later (in writing to admissions) with a change in mind. It would be a no-no to do this at more than one university, simultaneously. Deposit would be non-refundable. With that said, per my other note, it is not necessary to do this at Clemson because priority for housing selection is based on admission date, and not acceptance/deposit date.

Is yours considering the bridge?

The meets are so much fun; we have season tickets. When Brie Clarke landed the Biles 1 Friday, LJC went crazy.

It’s called a Tiger Rag and it’s a long standing Clemson tradition - I still have mine from when I was a student in the late 80’s. Alumni travel around the world and pose with them, and they publish those photos on their social media and in Clemson World magazine.

I’m aware. Hubs still has a box of memorabilia from his time as an athlete at Clemson; I’ll have to see if he has any. 30+ years (me) and 35+ years (DH) of going to games and neither of us have ever used them. Of course we also refuse to do the “woo.” I think I’ve landed on making some tableclothes for tailgate and a banner for DD for her May graduation, so they’ll definitely get used in some manner. I just found 4 more in the cupholders of a couple of our folding chairs I pulled out for softball tailgating :joy:

There was a button campaign we wore to the games when I was there (2000-2004) that said “stop the woo” and it clearly didn’t work…

It’s a Tiger Rag.

Get it?

Our tailgate is catty-corner from Gate 1, so close to the Sailing club tailgate; the “kids” love the woo. Most everyone by our’s is older GenX and up, so everyone playfully yells back no woo

I was the parent that asked for question again. I’m a Clemson alumni and I have a sophomore engineering student. I knew she was not correct, but didn’t want to seem like a jerk. LOLOLOL

I called Clemson housing the next day, and they confirmed that it is based on when you APPLIED to Clemson. NOT when you put a deposit down. She also asked me the counselor name that was giving the information. I told her that she was super nice and I didn’t want her to get in any trouble. Housing rep said that she just needs to speak with her and many other counselors because they are not giving out the correct info. Housing has been getting calls on this DAILY!

My daughter applied August 1 and I want to make sure she gets her priority time.

If you have any questions about Clemson, please reach out. I’m full of opinions.

Hah! Small world! I was the one who put the question in the chat during the first time she presented to us.

I feel for the presenter - she clearly wasn’t feeling great, but I also just didn’t love her presentation. A decent part of it felt like a re-tread of the general info session. I would’ve rather had more time in our breakout session.

At this point my kid and I know a lot of general info for the school. He’s trying to decide between the Construction Mgmt program at Clemson and the Building Construction program at Virginia Tech. Both schools are great, both programs are great. There are no bad choices, but a choice needs to be made.

OOS accepted Summer Start! I’ll take it! 3.7UW 4.1W 1500 SAT (she had a LOT to overcome emotionally & physically the first 2 years of HS, which is why her freshman grades brought her GPA down). Still awaiting Honors decision. Has anyone been accepted to Honors College if they are Summer Start?

Did you just receive this decision?

Yes. My daughter applied late.
