It’s a “rally rag” for games, like a “terrible towel”
Oops, lol.
We were just talking about these today, that they must’ve bought 80k of them because they are always giving them out; I got three in the last week alone, but we don’t use them. It’s kind of like “stop trying to make rally rags happen; it’s not going to happen”
That is hysterical, and I am so embar that I thought it was a bandana!
Corp waste at its best!
In the athletic department’s defense, they’ve really worked to do things to incentivize fans to come support the women’s sports and to make the events fun; it’s worked. The Clemson fans have really come out in full force and supported softball, lacrosse and gymnastics the last couple years. I’m just not a waving things in the air kind of girl I’m not sure what we’re going to do with all of them; maybe make a banner for graduation or maybe a table cloth for tailgate, lol
Good idea! If you get enough a table cloth would actually be super cute. (I’ll donate my son’s to the cause.)
My daughter is a cheerleader and we love a good rally rag!
Last night we attended the virtual presentation for admitted students admitted into the College of Art, Architecture and Construction Management. During the presentation, the women speaking on behalf of Clemson said that your housing selection time slot is based on when you deposit and commit as opposed to when you submitted your application for admittance to Clemson. One of the parents pushed on that, as that would be a change, and the person leading the session said that she wasn’t sure, she might have misunderstood, and she’d get back to that questioner.
Well, I wasn’t the questioner, but I care very much about the answer. We can’t/won’t commit until we know how much merit aid my student will receive and whether that makes it financially feasible, but he submitted his application on August 2nd, so I had hoped that would mean a good room selection slot.
So two questions:
(1) Has anyone seen anything official about how room selection time slots are determined?
and (2) If it’s by deposit date, can you deposit and then get out of it? My son is deciding between Clemson and our in-state program. He’s doing his visit to Clemson for the March 29th admitted student day, but our in-state admitted student day isn’t until April 5. I don’t want him to make a decision until after April 5, but if that’s going to really mess up his housing chances, I could put money down now, as long as it’s possible to pull back if he ultimately decides for the in-state choice. (I wouldn’t love to just lose the deposit, but I could if I had to.)
Will also be interested in hearing how this turns out. We are in a similar boat, but we are anticipating that OOS merit at Clemson will be little to none, so we put in a housing deposit at another university where the housing spots are rapidly dwindling away while we wait on Clemson.
Is the housing concern about which specific dorm you’re child is hoping to select or whether or not there is enough housing? My son’s last decision doesn’t come out until April 1st, so I can’t see us making any deposits until mid/late April. I imagine there are others in the same boat. I guess I’m not too concerned unless they actually run out of housing (although maybe I should be?)
I thought this was frowned upon. I feel like our school college and career advisor mentioned its a no no. Or is it common?genuinely asking, not making a judgement here. We are in a similar holding pattern.
Freshmen are guaranteed housing. My daughter committed a few days before the deadline, her application was in very late too. She didn’t apply to honors until her first semester. She decided to join a LLC, partially for good housing.
I think it’s okay to pay housing deposits, I know someone who paid $1800 and will only get back part of it if her son chooses another school. You should commit to more than one school I believe.
For my son it’s more which dorm. He doesn’t necessarily want the “best” in terms of amenities, but he REALLY feels strongly about location and where he wants to be on campus. So he was hoping for a relatively early selection spot.
I have potentially answered my own question. I think the admissions officer on my meeting last night was wrong. Looking at the New Student Housing Sign Up Info here: » New Student Housing Sign-up
There’s a Q&A at the bottom about this.
How does priority work?
First-Year Priority
Priority is based on your roommate status (students in roommate groups will select first), University application date, and your community choice. Students who select a Living-Learning Community in the Community Choice section will only be able to choose spaces designated for their LLC. These students will receive timeslots on LLC days, based on their application date.
So that suggests that it IS application date, and not cash down deposit date.
my son says the gymnastic matches are a blast
it ABSOLUTELY is based on application date, which in turn is based on roommate group (highest status of an individual within the group). At least, this is how it was when my S23 selected housing, and also confirmed by another poster in the EA thread
Shoeboxes (older/wet style) are great/central location very walkable to football stadium, central campus/library, and one of the main dining areas. Spacious (walk in closet and in-room sink/mirror) but older/wet style, so not necessarily going to ‘sell out fast’. But known to be the most social, and the place other dorms go to hang out. If OOS and looking to meet people more easily, shoeboxes facilitate that better.
Yeah, I really thought it was application date. Which is why I was surprised when the admissions officer running the thing last night said it was based on deposit date. Then I asked to clarify - was it deposit date and not application date? And she said it again - deposit date. Then later in the presentation one more parent chimed in to say “did I hear you say deposit date?” and the AO said it AGAIN. Then she said “well, I might have a misunderstanding.” Um, that’s a pretty big misunderstanding! And she was running the event herself, so there was no one to check with. So that’s why I was confused. She seemed so confident. I was really glad to find it explicitly written out on the website, so as to not have any potential word of mouth discrepancies.
Thank you for this! This brings up another question - I keep seeing the phrase “wet style” - I don’t know what that means. Does that just mean like what we used to think of as hallway bathrooms? Like there’s a room down the hall some where that has some toilets and showers?
