Yes! I havent figured out for sure. But I am in a facebook group and seems like we all have kids that are dependents of veterans. Not sure if this is your case?

Yes, my husband and I are veterans. That could very well be it.

@meagan_allen I just called admissions. They confirmed what you said because we’re veterans.:blush:

I agree…that’s not the same as yield protection. I’m guessing that at least some percentage of the kids rejected at schools they’d expect to be accepted at applied late enough that some majors are full. Or they didn’t do any follow-up - for instance, we’ve got one school that kid isn’t terribly interested in, and kid has chosen not to apply for honors or scholarships…if kid is rejected there, it would likely be because they have evidence of a lack of interest. I’m guessing that the number of kids who apply early, apply for scholarships, etc, and then get rejected at State U but accepted at MIT is vanishingly small. But, kids who apply to competitive schools and then, in a panic, apply to State U right at the RD deadline may be in a different situation if the spots are already full from kids who apply EA.

DS (deferred) got an email about the Lyceum Scholarship deadline - did everyone who is still the pool get that email? He’s hopeful that the email means something, but looking at it my guess is went out to everyone.

Schools clearly outline if ā€œdemonstrated interestā€ is a factor in admissions.

See common data set, section C7

It was once pointed out to me by someone who worked in Admissions to take those common data set factors with a grain of salt. I was asking specifically about Demonstrated Interest and she said that while it’s not something in the common data set to be considered, admissions officers are human. And they are also evaluated on their admission numbers. So it certainly can’t hurt an applicant to show Demonstrated Interest and most likely helps.

Lyceum is very very competitive. Only about 10 or 15 spots and thousands of applications

Thanks for the info! I didn’t realize it was so competitive! I actually assumed that they must not have gotten a lot of applicants since they extended the deadline!

The goal is to help as many kids get into CU as possible.

Someone in admissions once told me that with 65k applications for only 4.5k spots….to use the best available data (i.e. the common data set).

Use it and put yourself in the best spot; play the percentages in this crazy game.

Clemson states, ā€œapplicants level of interest is not considered.ā€

Thus, demonstrated interest cannot be….ā€œmost likely helpfulā€ā€¦.for CU.

Again, there are nuances, etc. but overall - follow the data.

accepted admission?

for those deferred can you submit your fall grades? And if so, what is the best way to do that - Should the SRAR be edited directly? Or should official transcripts be sent? My deferred son just got all As (with 5 APs) so he’d love to have those included in his application.

I checked the FAQs as well for deferred applicants. It looks like they’re just inviting applicants to add resume, personal statement, or letter of recommendation (presumably if these weren’t added before?). Or to type in a text box if they have something further to say. I didn’t see any kind of request for SRAR update.

I personally would be a little nervous about touching the SRAR after the U of Tennessee SRAR drama. Check that page if you haven’t seen it (long story short, it appears that editing the SRAR for other schools resulted in the SRAR being resubmitted for TN, which kicked some kids out of EA into RD… looks like TN is fixing it, but this situation gives me pause about touching the SRAR).

Thanks. He got enthusiastic that it was directed him, but when I read the email I was pretty sure it was just a mass outreach thing (Clemson is a reach school for him).

My son’s acceptance letter last year said he would get a scholarship. I think it ended up being 25k total over 4 years. It didn’t impact his decisions in any way.

If it helps here are his stats.

@SoCal92780 I understand you can put anything you want in the upload for personal statement. You could open that up and make a statement to tell Clemson that you wanted to include the grades and then List the grades in that statement. It sounds like a catchall. I guess that’s what they told us when we called. In October, we called because my daughter had forgotten to Mention something. I would call Clemson and find out how they want you to proceed with adding the grades from this past semester. Good Luck. :four_leaf_clover:
