Yes, we took some leeway with this on our initial application. My daughter described her dreamy day seeing Clemson for the first time as we rolled in over homecoming weekend. Sights, sounds, feelings, and then kind of “why Clemson” for her and what she could see herself doing there. She was accepted. There’s not a great description of what to do with that box so I think a lot of folks skip it. Good luck!
Those of you that were accepted already- just wondering when your kiddos applied? My daughter applied 8/19 so I have no idea if that seems to be an early date or a late date for when housing selection does start opening up.
I was accepted…applied 9/7
My D applied 9/21. I’d say you’re on the early side. Our friend that applied last year @9/12, logged on for housing and all the suite styles were already gone. They were surprised as they felt September might be on the early side. I do think in-state students know the drill and try and apply as close to the opening date as possible to secure a good place in line over at housing. Something for us to consider with my 2nd kiddo. I couldn’t get my D motivated enough to have everything done in August. Sorry this was meant to reply to meagan_allen question. Whoops.
Yes this is our hopes. Since Clemson was her first choice she was ready to go pretty much right after applications opened up. So fingers crossed that we were early enough.
applied 8/1
I’d say most in state kids who (even if they’re slightly interested in Clemson) know to apply August 1 or very soon after due to the housing situation.
Sorry if I missed from above but is housing determined by when you apply or accept your spot. My son was accepted as well as 3 of his friends and they all want to live together so we are all trying to get everything done that we can.
Application date, my daughter joined a llc partially for this reason (hers was a last minute application). She didn’t even apply to honors until before her second semester.
Thank you, I wonder then how they work it when you have some kids that request to live together but applied at different times.
They have a roomate group and the earliest time slot gets the priority
Returning students get priority for reserving rooms in the spring and incoming students (even really early applicants) find that the “best” rooms have already been taken. Still good to apply early and you will have more options… even if not the best rooms.
For fall of 2024 incoming freshmen have priority, many sophomores don’t even get on campus housing for sophomore year.
We are in state and my daughter didn’t apply until the 1st week of October Clemson was her top choice and she’s a perfectionist, so it took her forever to feel good about her application. She was accepted, but definitely will be late on the housing choices. Thankfully, she spent a week at a summer program on Georgetown’s campus this summer and came away thinking the shared bathrooms for the entire hall were fun and social, lol, so I guess she’ll be ok if that’s the type of dorm she gets
Can you provide additional detail on what she joined? My daughter was a late applicant also
We were told differently by Admissions counselor during our campus visit.
An LLC is a living learning community
Daughter accepted
Applied 8/24
Did anyone commit yet?
Suites go really fast during dorm selection. Very fast. Unless they applied the first day the portal was open (or have a roommate who did) it will be smart to have a list of backups and strategies for what they will do if all the suites are gone.
Reading about the housing issue. Are freshman guaranteed housing? If it’s so tight - where are they housed? Given the cost, I would want to know there’s housing available.
