I don’t unfortunately but I do know they were shocked by that number. Bigger than they have ever had so far for EA.
Wow. That is crazy. UGA, a much larger school with regard to student population, had less at 30,400 total EA applications and that was a 13% increase for them even.
I wonder what percentage they admitted!
From the thread seems like a very low percentage.
As someone new to Clemson, I appreciate this information. Thanks for your thoughtfulness.
Late to the game here, but S25 deferred. Out of state, approx. 3.75 GPA/30ACT submitted, probably around the 40th percentile at a competitive but not excessively so midwest Jesuit high school with pretty low grade inflation. Applications to Clemson from his school have, like they have at basically every school south of Cincinnati, skyrocketed in recent years.
Deferral was the expected outcome; I’d guess he’s a 50/50 shot in RD, but he may not stick around that long as Clemson was probably #5 on his wish list and he’s already in at one of his top 3. He already said he wasn’t at all set back by getting deferred, so my sense is he’d moved on before last Friday, anyway. Best of luck to all!
Some stats from our OOS (private, large) school: 95 applications reported within the school’s internal system so far.
Of those 95 applications, there were 18 students admitted (18.9%); there were 76 deferred (80%); and one denied.
Of the admits: average GPA is 4.62W with average SAT of 1396 (15 apps) or ACT of 31 (9 apps, including the ones who took both).
Of the deferrals: average GPA is 4.18W with average SAT of 1247 or ACT of 27. (36 of these 76 went TO).
Every app with GPA at or above 4.62W was admitted.
In the band below that, there were a total of 26 apps with GPA between 4.4W and 4.61W. Of those, 10 were admitted and 16 were deferred. This band of GPA is where college/major appears to matter more - leading to deferrals in architecture, nursing, biomedical sciences majors.
As Clemson says, the criteria for admission, especially EA, is with a premium on rigor of courses; GPA; and class rank (and if no rank, then school context and GPA get more weight). The Top 8 GPAs were admitted. Of the next 12 top GPAs, 6 were admitted.
Curious what are his top 3?
WOW super interesting!!! 95 Applicants from your school that’s amazing. How big is your HS? We had 8 and I thought that was a lot. We are OOS Vermont.
Boulder/UTK/IU, in some unspecified (likely as yet undetermined) order.
ETA: mea culpa, just realizing I should have dm’d Mdowns123 in response. Don’t want to derail this Clemson discussion!
I wish by son would have applied to Boulder. We live in a mountain town now so he wants the complete opposite. Sound like he has some great options. Congrats
I have a daughter at IU (Kelley), and she absolutely loves it! My youngest who just got admitted to Clemson also got direct entry to Kelley, and it’s very high on her list.
My daughter applied to Boulder. It has her dream major. We are worried about the party school reputation though.
No need to worry. My friend’s daughter just graduated there and she didn’t party much and had a wonderful time.
wow thank you so much - that data is gold. wonder how south carolina (i know wrong thread) will differ
Lol, my daughter is just starting to get acceptances and already can’t decide between Clemson, IU, and Penn State…all for business. It really is their first major life decision that they get to make. I remember it being hard for me too to decide.
Thank you! All anyone says when we mention Boulder is “it’s a party school” or “it’s soooo liberal.” It’s getting discouraging. Meanwhile, their engineering program is ranked 23rd, higher than Clemson’s.
And Boulder is awesome!
It’s also the closest to home for us, with the cheapest and easiest flights.
Of those reporting in Scoir for our very large public OOS school: 5 admits, 3 defers, and an estimated 3-4 that haven’t reported yet. 3 of those admits were 3.85+UW/32-35 ACT; 2 admits were 3.85+UW/test optional; 1 defer was 3.8/30 in impacted major; and other 2 defers had lower stats. In 2024, 68% of those that applied from this OOS HS were admitted between both EA and RD.
IMO, I know its tough to wait, but I think the chances of RD are very good for many unless in a impacted major.
