What happens if you are waitlisted in both the schools (1st and 2nd choice). Heard in the past years, waitlist was for only 1 school. This year’s waitlist message was generic and said waitlisted to 1st and 2nd choices. Do you get considered for both schools in waitlist?
Yes. And waitlists have always been per school.
Any word? Anyone confirm how many were offered the waitlist and how many accepted?
We have not received any email regarding waitlist decision.
It’s too soon. In the past they’ve sent acceptances (after a phone call) about a week after the commitment deadline, and final closure of the list in late June/July.
I got an email from the dir of admissions this afternoon scheduling a waitlist conversation for tmr. What should I be expecting?

I’m only guessing, but I would say the top 3 questions that comes to mind are:
- what do you know about CMU beyond what you wrote in your app.
- do you still want to come to CMU.
- if offered admission will you accept and show up in Fall.

Colleges don’t want to admit anyone from the waitlist unless they feel pretty confident that the student will accept the offer. This is a pre-qualification call so that they can gauge how interested you actually are in Carnegie Mellon. They will want to hear how excited about CMU you are and, as @cy7878 mentioned, they will want to know if you are still hoping to attend CMU.

It was a really short call. Basically, I was told that they had started looking at the waitlist for the College of Engineering and that they were offering me a spot. I accepted and that was pretty much it.
