CMU Waitlist - Class of 2028

Anyone who applied to CMU Dietrich / Tepper didn’t get the waitlist email early this week ? Thx

In the recent past ,Anyone got off waitlist after getting that second email on “remain in waitlist” ?
In the recent past,Anyone got off waitlist without getting that second email? Its so confusing why some were sent that email and some were not. No one knows

According to my friend who called admission, they aren’t expecting to go to waitlist for MCS, IS or SCS. DC is also unlikely but not certain as they’re still counting deposits.

Oh really??? I did not know that…will call admissions tomorrow or mail them.

you mean IS is Information Systems, correct?

Waitlisting that many people for such few spots isn’t really nice. A few spots isn’t going to change the face of the class of 2028.

Yeah, gotta say, left a bad taste in my mouth. Like, do your job and reject people, and maintain a small waitlist, not one that is double the size of the class. How they can even sift through the list at all is beyond me.

Son applied to Dietrich/ WL/ Received the second email a few days ago. Was confusing but seems most (not all) received the email based on this forum.

When will there be a movement for mcs?

If this is true that’s stupid, I got deferred in December and thought I had a chance at like UVA/VT and got waitlisted by both of those along with CMU… Honestly don’t comprehend college admissions at all, you work your ass off for years and then they defer and waitlist you.

“Is there anything else you would like to share at this time regarding our Waiting List and your decision-making process?” any ideas on how to answer this question in the survey?

I assume so? Idk, that’s how my friend texted it to me. I think he’s abbreviating all the collleges. I’m guna call myself today to ask

A waitlist is almost always a soft rejection, and looking at CMU’s past waitlist accept rates shouldn’t have given anyone hope that being waitlisted here was anything more than that. It’s best to take a waitlist as seeing yourself as having gotten rejected with honors and moving on rather than expecting a different outcome later.

The reality is they have far more applicants that are academically qualified to be there than they have seats to offer and each university has their own internal criteria on what makes their strongest applicants. From outside the process, it’s just not possible to comprehend why one applicant stands out over another, but please don’t take it personally. It’s not that you weren’t good enough-- it’s that other applicants had more of what they wanted.

My son filled it with the intention and strong indication that he will join CMU if offered the opportunity without any hesitation.

I put all my updates from the last tiem they asked. I tried to send them an email a few weeks ago with updates and they said they’d add it to my file but only what’s on the waitlist form is evaluated.

Some majors, some people got the second email while in SAME major some others did not get that second email. No one knows the meaning of getting that second email.

Anyone got off waitlist in last one week?
