@vafamily I just searched admitted student day on the CNU website. D is taking a big trip to Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey in April so I needed to check dates & sign up early to make sure she was able to go. The dates for that are April 3/4 and April 17/18. Friday is an overnight and Sat is the actual day of events. Being from OOS I wanted her to have the overnight.
@Bshore I was contemplating attending both too. Sounds like PLP/Honors is more informative so we may pass on that, but still not sure. Tickets weren’t too expensive for the Feb date so we’ll see…
@vafamily My daughter got her acceptance letter for the PLP today and it was personally signed by President Trible!!! It comes from the Office of the President.
@Froggyjr What size was the envelope? My D has 2 regular letters size envelopes from them on informed delivery today. One from the Office of the Present and one from the Office of Admissions. Wondering if regular size letter means bad news?
My daughter received a letter on Saturday for the PLP and another today which was just a reminder letter about the admissions steps and a magnet. Both were regular size letter envelopes.
I don’t know how many do both, but I think being in the honors program actually makes the leadership program more doable because honors students have the gen ed courses waived. Also, for volunteer hour requirements, you can double dip. So, if you do 30 for the leadership program requirements, they can also count towards the honors requirements.
My ds is a sophomore in the leadership program at CNU and my dd just got her acceptance to the honors program today. She chose not to participate in leadership as well because she has plans to double major and wanted to leave room to also take some classes outside of those majors.
Before she applied, we actually mapped out all her courses over the 4 years for both of her majors, the honors program and leadership to see if she wanted to apply to one or both. What we found was that she could meet all the requirements, but with the double major, there wouldn’t be any room left for her to take additional classes she was interested in. If she wasn’t going to double major, she would have also done the leadership program.
The first round of PLP acceptance letters went out this week, for students who applied early. The next round of letters go out April 1, so if your child is called for an interview they are probably a candidate.
We haven’t gotten a PLP letter or honors letter. I’m starting to worry that DD won’t get in to either. Would you guys mind sharing stats for your kids that got in? My DD has a 4.49 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted, 28 ACT and is ranked third out of 341 at a good school. Her ACT just squeaked in so maybe it was too low this year? They have been getting higher each year.
@vafamily@cheers2020 My D interviewed back in Oct. There was no mention of needing to interview again.
Thanks for the info @Mom0012 She’s planning on doing the 5yr MAT program (secondary ed & math) and minoring in psychology. We’re going for another visit in Feb while on a trip to look at another school in VA that she’s not seen yet. Maybe we’ll schedule an appointment to talk to someone about the practicality of it all. I’m assuming your son has enjoyed his time at CNU if your daughter has now applied as well?
@melmrs Sounds like you shouldn’t have to worry with those stats. My D applied EA, has a 4.0 and 1320 SAT. The school doesn’t rank. We are also OOS. She was accepted to both Honors and PLP. Good luck. Hopefully the letter will come today!!
@mamawitch - thank you for your response. He interviewed early November and then a few weeks ago he received a letter inviting him to the Presidential Scholars Selection Day. I thought that would be for the PLP and/or Honors program. Congrats to your daughter.
@cheers2020 Ok, my daughter received a call about that too. I was led do believe that’s more of an informational day. We are coming from OOS and are trying to pick and choose what we attend. I guess I’ll have to look into it a bit more. She did sign up for accepted student day already though.
So I just took a peek at their site and it looks like that might be something even more. I copied this from the CNU website…“A very select few PLP students are chosen as Presidential Scholars and receive a $7,500 stipend for study at Oxford University.” We did not get this invite.
Good morning, Thanks for sharing info! My daughter was accepted under EA and is waiting to here about the status of her try for the PLP, but we haven’t heard a peep (mail or phone call) about her PLP status. I’m sadly thinking she didn’t make it, but am not going to mention this to her. If I reading posts clearly, it sounds like students who were accepted into PLP were notified by mail (#10 enveloped from the President’s Office) and as early as last week, which is way sooner than 2/1. And, those PLP accepted students who are a select few received a call and an invite to Presidential Scholars Day. Do I have this right? Thanks for any info.
Daniellr, in your post you mentioned your child receiving the PLP acceptance letter on Sat., Jan. 25. Do you mind my asking if you are in VA or out-of-state? I think what’s in our digest for today is the letter with the magnet, which is from the Dean of Students…Was your letter with the magnet from the Dean of Students?
