Colby RD 2024

@Charlie2772

Thank you! Same with your son.
I am pretty sure because of the covid-19, colleges will prefer giving less financial aid to international students this year.

Colby doesn’t give merit scholarships, unless you mean the presidential scholars program? @pkulis

D Waitlisted Colby and Bowdoin. Rejected Swarthmore. Received Presidential scholars email. 4.0 U/ 4.4 W GPA. 33 ACT. National Hispanic scholar, National merit commended, NHS, 5 year Varsity swimmer, 4 year swim MVP and captain Senior year. 6 AP and the rest honors. Getting worried, she’s only been accepted at state school. WTH…congrats to those who got in.

Son accepted. Did receive Prez Scholar email, but no mention of it in portal.

Rejected
1490 SAT, 5.0 GPA, leadership positions in multiple extracurriculars, 10 AP classes, lived abroad for a portion of my life, speak 3 languages fluently, and very involved in choir and community service
I didn’t really try on my application though

Accepted!

Visit + really great interview
33 ACT (34 SS)
Strong EC’s and community service, great LORs, plus 11th grade book award for D’s leadership. Good grades at rigorous private school.

Congratulations to all, and good luck to those still waiting for good news.

Accepted! Visit, but no interview. Didn’t receive any email. 34 ACT and a 93 GPA from a very competitive public high school. 7 AP’s. Super strong EC’s in theatre and environmental activism. Congrats to everyone accepted and on the waitlist!

Accepted! Congrats to everyone else!!!

Waitlisted

36 ACT/4+ on 10 AP Tests, 6 APs this Year/800 Math Level 2 and 790 Biology E/4.0 UW (School Doesn’t weight also a rural school with high grade inflation)

Good EC - founded water quality data team and put on an annual research summit, 1st chair All-State Band, serve on board of directors of a volunteer board, STUCO, NHS President, Athletic Leadership Board Secretary, Varsity Track/XC, XC Captain, National Merit Finalist plus some state awards and misc. community service

I’m a little surprised because I got in to Amherst and am a Faculty Scholar at Bowdoin, but I applied really late, never visited (but had seen Bowdoin and Bates), and was never offered an interview (probably due to my location in rural Western Colorado).

A little disappointed, but it wasn’t my top school.

Best of luck to everyone! And congrats to all acceptees!

rejected
1440 SAT
4.5 GPA weighted, I think 3.8 UW
good essays, really good recommendations
okay EC’s, a couple leadership positions, nothing too special
requesting heavy aid
didn’t get to visit and wasn’t asked for an interview
also on a gap year if that affects anything

I’m not surprised but I am pretty bummed because I really liked Colby. I was also rejected by Bowdoin and Amherst, waitlisted at Trinity, and accepted by Clark, Gettysburg, and F&M.

Son was accepted! Good luck everyone!

midwest
No interview
ACT 34, 4.0 GPA UW
5 APs (5,5,5,4,3 (BC calc, subscore4))
SAT sub tests 780,770,750
Merit Finalist
ECs in music, research, ton of bio-related summer activities

Applied for ecology/bio.

I got a ā€œColby grantā€ that’s a lot of money annually- is this not a merit scholarship? I assumed it was.

I checked the portal and I’m in. Why did I not receive an email?

My daughter graduated from Colby in 2019. Colby does not gives out merit scholarships. If you got really great financial aid, like my daughter did, it is not based on merit but based on need.

D was waitlisted. 36ACT, 4.0 W, 4.8W, IB salutatorian, club/varsity swimmer/team captain, interesting employment, normal ECs otherwise. Strong essays imo. I don’t know about LoRs, but in her request for non-custodial parent waiver, GC described D as one of the brightest and kindest students she’d ever worked with.

Hard to know what schools are looking for. We are fairly high need, but not URM or first gen. Not sure if need is an unstated factor or not.

@pkulis, it may be a need-based grant. Either way, congrats on the acceptance and the money!

Congrats to those accepted. And for those who were waitlisted or rejected, remember the old CC mantra - Love the school that loves you back!

lol

so… i just got accepted to the global entry program in Dijon, France!!
I have a 30 super scored ACT ( very high english and reading VERY low math and science) and about a 3.9 weighted GPA so i did not expect this at all!

however, my essay was very emotional and talked about my maturation through high school and i think was honestly very real and touching maybe?

my extracurriculars include stuco pres, internships and study abroad in Paris, over 150 hours of service at a local school for the blind, many clubs, and some casual sports!

i am super thrilled ab colby specifically cause my acceptance alone seems to be an indicator that they care more about who you are as a whole than ur numbers. i saw that 9.5% acceptance rate in the fall and sent in my application as more of a lottery ticket than a serious consideration.

for all of you class of 2025ers and more, try to discover what makes you a unique and captivating person and capitalize off of it! for me it was how time abroad directly translated into me caring more about my health, academics, and relationships which showed through exponentially greater success in my school as a student and member of a community

good luck to all of you!
