Coldplay Viral Videocam Oops

This was legendary!

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, it has become second nature to people to pull out their phones and start videotaping everything. It’s something we talk about with our kids all the time - you never know when someone is going to catch something on camera.

I’m guessing that it was a spontaneous comment by Chris Martin, and he wasn’t really thinking in the moment that someone was going to catch it on video and post it and that it would go viral. I did see an interview with the woman took the video of the KissCam and originally posted it, and she said she had some regret about posting it.

Or people could just not lie and cheat on their spouses, especially in public. ; )

Exactly. Especially showing PDA in a large venue which is supposedly near the CEO family’s home. I feel sorry for his kids not only because of how it will impact their family life, but just all the teasing from other kids. I feel sorry for the wife too, but the sooner she found out the better IMO, but I’m sure the public way this happened makes it harder to deal with for sure.

My favorite awkward kisscam moment I witnessed was at a college basketball game. The camera stopped on an attractive couple–they recoiled in horror and slid away from each other. Because the screen was HD you could lip-read what the horrified guy screamed: “she’s my sister!!!”

Probably for other reasons, I haven’t seen kiss cam recently at this arena.

Perhaps, or perhaps is actually easier. So often when cheating is found out privately, the cheater manages to gaslight the spouse or manipulate or threaten the spouse into silence or a “we drifted apart” narrative. But this guy was caught on tape, and the whole world now thinks he’s a schmuck. I hope that wife gets a nice big divorce settlement and goes on to live her best life away from this loser. Upwards and onwards!

That’s a good point.

Yes. I assume he is going to lose his job, and that’s understandable. OTOH, I wouldn’t hope that this ruins his ability to get a job, which it might, at least for awhile. Less about concern for him, but again, the kids.

Yes, thank goodness he’s a billionaire so even if he’s unemployed his wife and kids will still get a good settlement. When it happens to regular folks, and the cheater gets fired, this can royally screw the spouse and kids as you note!

I hadn’t heard that.

Oh sorry, I just looked it up and I was repeating info that isn’t true! I had heard he was worth 1.2 billion, but in reality he is the CEO of a company worth 1.2 billion. So not at all the same thing. My bad.

If the woman he was with is his HR director, as has been reported, he absolutely should lose his job. I would hesitate to hire him, because he is a grown man who has demonstrated an appalling disregard for others. That said, my personal opinion is irrelevant, and business seems to reward guys like this.

We should feel badly for the families of these two, however that pain is all the fault of the two people who decided to cheat on their families. Would it be better if they were never discovered, discovered in private, etc.? I don’t think it matters. The only better would be if they had not deceived their loved one in the first place.

I agree with you and have zero sympathy for the CEO and his side chick. They alone created this situation. As I said up thread, there is no privacy in crowd of 65,000 people. A tech CEO should know better than anyone that there are cameras everywhere. It was extremely narcissistic behavior on their part. They were busted and karma is a b*tch. They alone are responsible for the pain all of this is causing their families.

All that being said, what I find troubling is that the “Internet sleuths” have not only outed the affair couple. I have seen news sources identifying the jilted wife by name along with her place of employment. They have also circulated family photos from her Facebook page that include the two teenage sons. There is no world in which this is ok.

When I was in my mid-30s, my husband and I went to a Jimmy Buffett concert and had front row seats. When they sang “Brown Eyed Girl,” they put me up on the JumboTron, apparently for quite a while. The next day, people at work would walk by me and say "Hey, Brown Eyed Girl!’ As it turned out, a lot of my coworkers were at that concert! Good thing I was with my husband.

I hadn’t read anything about this story and saw a meme of two cats doing the pose. I just thought it was cute and sent it to my D. She responded “you don’t know the story, do you?” She filled me in and the cat meme became not just cute, but pretty funny.

Now that cameras are ubiquitous in society, there is no such thing as anonymity or privacy in public. Let this be a warning to all who may not want their business broadcast worldwide!

Facebook is awash with meme after meme. It’s crazy.

And then the best line - Coldplay hasn’t had a hit single in years.

Now they created two.

Who knows, maybe these two are meant for one another, weren’t happy at home and will live happily ever after. We don’t know them or their private lives. I wish everyone well.

So true. I’m in a group chat with some friends where this came up, and someone reminded us that there are people we all know in open marriages. Maybe that’s the case here (but one might assume not considering the reaction of the two people involved..but I guess that’s the point, so many assumptions)

And she should too. I don’t think having an affair should prevent either from working again though.

There’s a lesson for all of us in this whole episode, which is that there is absolutely zero expectation of privacy in a public environment.

Most of us ordinary folks haven’t had our lives upended by something like this, but we should all be very conscious of the fact that we are living in what has effectively become a surveillance state.

I’ve heard/read no content on others sitting around them. Surely they ha e a little more dish. And if they do and haven’t made that public some credit where credit is due to them for not adding fuel to the fire.

But I could be wrong and maybe they have offered info

Given her position as HR director, she certainly couldn’t claim that she didn’t understand the ramifications of what she was doing. But it’s important to note that the CEO is in a position of power within the organization.
