It’s not a Common App.
Speaking as someone who works at a nonselective institution, the most important thing is that you develop (professional, I hasten to add!) relationships with faculty members, whether it’s a CC institution or not. And don’t worry—if you have the grades and research experience (the latter comes from those relationships with faculty!), graduate and professional schools won’t actually care remotely as much as people here seem to think about the prestige of your undergrad degree.
Well, I might have to forget the Greek life. I just found out my fall semester grades and they’re not good. Plus I might have mistakenly sent in wrong info on my app. Chance me anyway? I’ll chance you back.
It’s a holistic admission process…you just have to show some love here and voila! You too will be blessed at the App Store.
Your 400 combined SAT is irrelevant holistically–you just need roughly 55,000 posts to be a part of the big leagues.
Wow, thanks for all the help, guys. I feel a lot better now. I think I might know someone who knows a moderator, so, I’m a sure acceptance, right?
pssst, don’t mention the *****
I suggest you go to the college confidential web site and use the very detailed search function. After you have done that, return here and we will all be happy to try to answer your specific questions.
I hate to be a bragger, but… maybe I can inspire some of you CC hopefuls out there! It took me a while, but
I just got promoted to Senior Member! And if I can do it, so can you! :D/
I know I should “love the app” I have on my sofa/phone, but I was really looking forward to getting the CC app so I could put the sticker on my car and impress all the other parents.
@garland,
Be sure you call and pester chat with the mod yourself. Don’t let your mother do it.
Thanks for the advice, Jim. She’s sort of clueless anyway. Apparently, college admission websites were sooo easy to get into when she started wasting time, errr, gathering information, at them.
They had websites back then, in the dark ages?? Thought she had to walk 5 miles in the snow uphill in both directions to get to the app.
My problem is, that I really love the app farther away, but my D insists that it has to stay on the homepage…
“Be sure you call and pester chat with the mod yourself. Don’t let your mother do it.”
@jym626 - I know that’s the standard advice in these situations, but 1) I view this as a negotiation and in most cases parents are more experienced negotiators, 2) most applicants have a tendency to hear only what they want to hear and therefore might miss the nuance of the message and 3) you can always explain to the adcoms/mods that precious Buffy is too busy preparing for her service project researching the causes of skin cancer in Costa Rica.
Good point, @sherpa. All mom has to beg say is “oh PULEEZE” take my precious snowflake. She only whines on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She’d call you herself today but she is perfecting cold fusion". Shoe-in.
^ In Aspen or Park City?
@Sherpa, I think that’s snowshoe, not shoe-in.
This snowflake would surely be an Aspen snowflake, dontcha think?
Hey I don’t get any points for starting this thread? Seems like there is no more College Confidential (CC) App. Guess my daughter will take College Confidential off her list! Maybe will apply to Niche, College Prowler or Cappex! How does their prestige compare to CC?
^Glad you didn’t mind my threadjack!
I can get the app for free in-state, but I really really want the CC app OOS because the parties are better. I know I’ll have to take a $250K loan, but it’s worth it. Help me convince my parents!
