College football '25 season thread

Sherrone Moore may cheat like Harbaugh and may end up ok but few can replicate Harbaugh’s winning personality. He’s just one of those guys - he’s a winner - so it’s a hard act to follow.

moore is a crybaby. he acted like someone died as opposed to harbaugh being suspended. he’s a stopgap placeholder only.

We won our first home game last night but it was a cupcake team - we did not make it to the game as James Taylor  concert on a beautiful fall (yes it was cool in Atlanta) night took me away. My Hulu acct dvrs it for me so I was able to watch most of it when we got home. We “could possibly” make a playoff this year - woohoo!

This.

And this.

Also, rivalries and football history be damned as well: with the SEC having expanded the number of teams, and going to 9 conference games per year, they are now talking about having 3 “permanent” rivals who are played every year; I hear that Tennessee will have Alabama, Vanderbilt, and perhaps Kentucky as the 3 “permanent” yearly rivals. But if the money talks loud enough, I can see that changing also. I would hate to see money undoing all the traditional rivalries; and I would certainly hate to see a year in which Tennessee did not play Alabama in football. The Third Saturday in October forever!

Surprises me that Georgia is not part of the permanent 3 for Tennessee - guessing they don’t want them because it’s a hard win, but they are long time rivals.

It would be geographic I’m sure - haven’t seen the list but I’d assume UF, Auburn, and U of SC?

I’ve seen a good graphic but can’t find it now. This story seems to line up with what I saw.

Georgia needs to drop Mississippi and Florida and replace with Tennesee and South Carolina.

Don’t expect it is solely up to GA to determine its SEC schedule.

GA plays Florida in Jacksonville. Huge game because the seating capacity of the NFL stadium (and a big screen you can see from outer space). Hotels, restaurants etc all depend on that game (getting my daughter to hockey that weekend was a little rough). I don’t think it will change.

However, they did stop the Rocky Mtn Showdown (CU and CSU) in Denver and the schools have just played (some years) at the college stadiums even though they made more money playing in Denver. Part of the reason for stopping was that there were a lot of kids driving to the stadium (about 30 miles from Boulder and 45 from Ft. Collins) and that was unsafe. We want our young drunk kids to be walking to games.

Stanford ran off to the ACC, not SEC, and it was the Pac-12 (not -10) before.

typo - yes, ACC as the person who noted it said.

Not as long as Alabama and Vanderbilt, followed by Kentucky. There was a long hiatus in Georgia playing Tennessee in the 1930s-1960s, with only a sporadic game here and there. Once the SEC went to a divisional structure, then Tennessee began playing Georgia and Florida every year; and Vol fans seemed to take the Florida game more seriously than the Georgia game during those years (at least from my perspective) – perhaps because Steve Superior was the coach at Florida during many of those years, and Florida just seemed to have Tennessee’s number way too many times. But Alabama and Vanderbilt, followed by Kentucky, have been the traditional opponents for Tennessee since the first decades of the 20th century.

Was just going to post the same thing. Huge game - almost everyone on the UGA campus makes the trip to JAX. They have themes and dress up in costumes. I can’t see them ending that tradition.

Yep - a drunkfest for all. No thank you.

It is one of those weekends where you don’t plan your wedding, don’t buy theater tickets as it is hard to get/park downtown, and actually get out of town if you can - and I lived about 25 miles from downtown! (daughter’s hockey was about 15 miles from home and the traffic could be backed up on the interstate to that exit)

We did a summer weekend rental on St. Simon Island GA and reading the house listings they all say must be 35 to rent on GAFL weekend. I was like “what is a GAFL??” until college football fan son decoded it for me!

That was a given when planning my October 1999 wedding on St Simons Island. Then the Braves made the playoffs so a number of people kept slipping off to the hotel bar.

We call it GA-FL, but my Florida friends call it FL-GA. We are correct. :winking_face_with_tongue:  :black_heart:
