Budget: I will have to talk with my parents
Home State: VA
Desires: Dont really have any, I would just want places to apply to that I have a chance of getting. Sports and Greek like don’t matter to me.
Most students’ college choices will be budget-limited. Talk to your parents before you make your application list so that you will not have to throw away admission offers from colleges that you would have known had no chance of making budget.
I would add CNU (match) for their Leadership Program that coordinates with a Business major well (reach, will depend on EC achievements - but based on what you posted here you have solid academic rigor at least).
You sound as if you’re primarily career-focused and not super-invested in the traditional college experience. Do you think you might enjoy a co-op school, where you would alternate between classroom learning and real-world work experience? A school like Drexel, for example, would be attainable with your stats, and has a whole range of co-op based business majors. https://www.lebow.drexel.edu/academics/undergraduate/degrees-and-programs/business-administration U of Cincinnati has similar programs but can, as a public university, be more affordable. Majors | University of Cincinnati A VA resident with a 3.9 weighted GPA should qualify for their National Outreach merit award.
I would like the traditional college experience, but Greek life and that stuff isn’t really a priority for me. If all else fails I am open to going to VCU for a year and then transferring to another school.
Another option, if you want one of the most competitive publics (UVA/W&M/VT) but don’t get into those on the first pass, is Richard Bland College, which is a residential two-year college that is administratively part of W&M, but has guaranteed transfer agreements with all three. You’d have a traditional, residential college experience among motivated students who are all seeking the transfer pathway, rather than attending a four-year school that you intend to leave. https://www.rbc.edu/academics/programs-degree/ It would be very affordable, too - under 25K/year all-in for VA residents… compared to a surprisingly-high 42K/year for VCU. (I did a double-take, but that’s what their website says!)
I’m not saying you might not get into one of the schools you want; just noting that if you’re considering attending a school with the intention of transferring, RBC, where transfer planning is the norm and yet you get an affordable but traditional college experience from day one, could be a good option.
One school you may want to consider is Bryant in Rhode Island. It has about 3200 undergrads and is well-known for its business programs. Additionally, you might want to consider Bentley in Massachusetts. It has about 4100 undergrads and also well-known as a business-focused school, but would be a tougher admit than Bryant.
If you could share your reactions to other schools that people have suggested, that might help give people more direction about what schools would be more likely to suit you.
