Our 18-year-old has come home for break looking really good–his face is so much clearer than high school and he doesn’t have dark circles under his eyes. He says he is washing his face the same way–he’s pretty good about this as a rule. He attributes it to not having to wake up at 6:30 am to get to class by 7:30. Instead he is waking up at 8:30 three days a week and sleeping until 10 or 11 two days a week. But he stays up until 2 or 3, so it’s not that he’s getting more sleep, he’s just sleeping later in the morning. And, of course, college isn’t as intense schedule-wise as high school.

He says he washes his sheets every 3 weeks (should I believe this?), which is, of course!, not as frequent as at home. So it’s not better sheet hygiene. He’s working out just occasionally…wish he would do more.

My complexion has improved dramatically since I started college. I am “blissfully happy” as well…I’m thinking that’s a big part of it (not that I was unhappy in high school).

I did think about those other things (beer and…) but I do really think it’s the less stressful schedule of college instead of class, 4 minute run to next class, class, four minute run, 20 minute lunch, etc. And ECs crammed in. And the freedom…Like HisGrace, my S loved high school but finds he loves college more! Glad to hear you are blissfully happy, HGFM!

I have a worse complexion since coming here. Of course, I also don’t work out much, eat dining hall pizza often, sleep on my face, and have to wake up at 7:30 for an 8 o’clock class, so those may be affecting my breakouts.
