Reading other threads, I recall also getting pi for the area, 3 statements were false, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 2.5 for the runner, -2<x<3, and 25 for the sum of digits. Damn, can’t remember those last 3 problems.
The answer was [-4,0,4]. But was the 16/3 question asking for the maximum or the minimum???
@penguinpal how did you get .08 for the probability one?
Umm, I think I ended up with 16p/200p = 0.08 or something like that? By adding up the probabilities of each square and dividing by total probabilities.
I have never taken statistics, and have done pretty terribly on the AMC with probability questions, though.
This one is easier than the amc. It’s just that I wasted too much time. But I answered more than 10, so I am hopefully ok.
I am pretty sure it was maximum.
Eh, But I still have an 11 as a freshman and a 49 on the SAT math. Do you think that will make it?
My post from the main thread:
While I can actually remember, simplying the imaginary was -1, maximum value 16/3, probability 0.08, area bounded pi, workers y^3/x^2, painted cube 488, four statement 3 were false, a/[a]+b/ was [-4,0,4], runner was 2.5, sum of digits was 25, equal area and volume was 864. Missing 4, feel free to fill in.
@lequalSmart I’m pretty sure that’s what it said. Might have read it wrong. Solved it using calculus which I took freshman year.
There are people who have gotten in with lower. Just curious, what demographic are you?
What do you mean? I am in 9th grade if thats what you are asking.
@lequalSmart Ethnicity and gender, I find that they want diversity, so Asian males, like myself, get rejected the most.
I am indian. That will hurt me
I am an asian female, but personally I never mark down “ethnicity” or “gender”. Although my first name reveals the latter, I have a white person last name tbh.
But colleges don’t really have a quota for minor programs like this.
I don’t think they do that. Does anyone know if they do for minor contests?
Idk, from my friend’s experiences, I’ve come to think it matters. All of my female friends got in with the exception of one. All of my friends who weren’t asian got in. Meanwhile, the accpetance rate for asian males who everyone expects to make it no problem is only about 50%.
@lequalSmart I doubt they would ever make an official statement, it’s just a hypothesis based on data I have.
I don’t know anymore. My friends are not asian and had challenge math scores of around 6. So if they get in then I think I should too.
Well, if only life was fair
Nobody else in my school that I know of even applied…we have a really small Asian population and imo are generally on the dumb side. Sigh.
