COLUMBIA TRANSFER: Fall 2020

decisions will be out by 4/29 so im ready mentally  - they said in their applicant portal email so im not sure if it changed

@heyigotnoclue whaaaat so soon. I am excited

@jazziscool - yup it said in the email where we made our portal

here:
We encourage you to track the completeness of your application by visiting your application status page. You may check your status online from March 11, 2020 through April 29, 2020.

So to the first-year applicants Columbia said ā€œAdmissions online document tracking for Regular Decision First-Year applicants will be available through March 20, 2020, so that you may see when the required parts of the application have been received and your application becomes complete.ā€ and the release date for them was March 26, so I think the decision would likely come out a few days after - guessing around early May?

yeah I think they are gonna shut down the portal for a while and then release decisions

Yeah, last year they release May 8 and send an email to tell us the exact time around one week before the decision release.

So we should expect to hear back on Wed May 6th or Fri May 8th?

Does anyone know how in depth do we need to go in essay about research opportunity with a professor at Columbia? I mentioned her research and stated my interested in that specific topic in my why transfer essay.

hey guys so i just realized that I have not submitted a college midterm report yet. do you think this will be waived because of COVID 19?

@heyigotnoclue they said decisions would be out by 4/29? What applicant portal email? I don’t see any updates on the portal (didn’t apply for FA) but I don’t see anything in my inbox or portal about 4/29

update: i just ended up uploading my current grades to columbia’s application portal. however on the applicant requirements section it says that this should have been submitted by april 15. am i completely screwed now ? i’m assuming that information was before covid and my professors never took the time to update grades till this week

@ericjeon it was required so I don’t think they would waive it, I’m sure they would’ve accepted an manual upload of your unofficial grades but since it’s more than a week past April 15 I would just email them

I think you’ll be fine and am hoping best for you! Like westvillagelover suggested I think you should send them an email to just politely apologize and follow up

I think that it’s fine. On April 16, I was emailed by an admissions officer who asked ā€œif at all possible, can u send ur current grades,ā€ so I think they understand that it’s difficult to fill out these forms and get accurate current grades due to the pandemic. Furthermore, this was technically past the deadline, but I just filled out the Columbia specific form and on the very day they thanked me for filling it. out and said theyd review it.

Someone got accepted as a transfer into SEAS recently, but they applied to the 3-2 program so the decisions were originally set to come out at this time.

Thank you so much for the input guys! I have emailed them and hopefully I hear a reply soon.

@eepbeep thank you for believing in me I hope the best for you too!

Just wondering: Does anyone have thoughts on how coronavirus will affect transfer admissions? Will they increase admit rate, admit fewer applicants, or hold steady?

@yeetahh1 i think admit rate will hold steady, but they will offer waitlist to more people.

@yeetahh1 I’m curious about this too, and I’d love to get other people’s thoughts on this situation as well!

My first instinct is that the rate will stay about the same - schools like Columbia make decisions with a focus on the applicants’ qualities/caliber anyways (as opposed to an urgent need to fill up space). Also, the coronavirus situation in the US escalated just a little before the application deadline, so I don’t think it should have had a noticeable impact on the number of people who applied.

At the same time, I have no idea if there will be more space next year due to current students taking a gap year/term and if the admissions office will take that change (if any) into consideration. Does anyone have insight from other schools that already released their transfer decisions/stats for this year?
