Comfortable Women's Shoes?

Post 369 – $300 for sneakers?? They are cute and look comfy, but… $300??

Do you mean the Paul Green shoes? 6pm is your friend. Unlike athletic shoes that are destined for 200-400 miles of wear, these have walking soles that do not disintegrate as fast.

I just resoled Paul Green boots that I got in 2009. Wore them almost every day on rainy Seattle streets (I walk 2-3 miles to and friom my bus stop).

Ironically, I was perusing this thread for commuter shoes that would work well in Seattle…

The boots that I have are very similar to these:

The leather is amazingly durable and survives the rain just fine. If you need water-resistant, professional-looking shoes, Aquatalia and Blondo worth loking into.

Aquatalia treats its suede and leather making it water-resistant.

Just read through this entire thread and now have so many windows open with shoes I may just have to order! I have pretty normal feet, regular arch, etc. but still struggle finding shoes that I can wear all day long comfortably. My favorites are cole haan (although I try to find them on sale) and puma sneakers fit me perfectly. I had a pair of Paul Greens years ago that I loved so thank you (BB?) for reminding me. Merrills fit me very well and I’ve bought a couple pair for traveling but, for the most part, I find their styles unattractive. DH gave me a pair of Pikolino boots a couple years ago and I was shocked that I could wear them all day comfortably. This thread has gotten me motivated to go look at other styles of the few pair of truly comfortable shoes I have.

I too have had that burning sensation after walking awhile in certain shoes but I’ve never known what caused it.

Aquatalia makes beautiful boots and, while I found a pair on sale for dd, I have yet to own a pair myself.

collage, that’s the power of CC collective wisdom - I have never heard of Blondo until someone mentioned it in our fashion thread. I love that brand now!

Anyone up for some “granny chic”?

Kidding aside, this brand had a cult-like following a few years ago. More hip than Birks!

If it is good for Maggie, it should be good for us, right?

Actually, the shoes are fine and comfy. I got a pair at NR and used them as my beach sandals for a while…

What I’m hoping to find (if anyone has good leads) is a comfortable shoe/sandal that can be worn with BARE feet, without making the sole of my foot feel like it’s burning. I have high arches and like a good arch support, medium to wide feet, and think LEATHER (or perhaps cork) insoles instead of synthetic might help my feet not get that burning sensation. I’d like to be able to wear these shoes/sandals with nice dresses (have tons of walking shoes for very casual clothing & even dressier slacks).

I think I may make a trip to Nordstrom’s & Macy’s and see what they have, as well as a few other shoe stores, including Walking Company, Clarks & others. Avoiding synthetic insoles and footwear with no arch supports cuts out a LOT of footwear.

OK, for what it’s worth, here’s the listing of the recommended brands in alphabetical order. Please let me know if I missed any.

Just to add 2 other brands. Ahnu are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, especially hiking and walking. I have a pair of Jambu’s that I wear all day long which would be great for wide feet. The footbed is memory foam and probably doesn’t meet HImom’s needs but I find my sandals comfortable, where them all day, mostly with dresses, and get many compliments http://www.jambu.com/storeitems?gender=women&category=casual%20shoes.

My “go to’s” are Keen sandals and Ahnu short boots for casual wear and Jambu and Dansko (really Salita now) for work where I am on my feet all day. I don’t do formal stuff so wouldn’t know.

This thread is inspiring for me to expand my horizons when looking for that perfect cute and comfortable shoe.

Gabor also make a good range of wide fitting shoes, available in shops and online in UK, including Amazon, though I have no experience of online shoe shopping.

@HImom, my doctor told me that sometimes the glue used in shoes can cause that burning sensation. I determined that was not the issue in my case, but I’m passing that info along in case it’s helpful to you.

Thanks for the list of brands mentioned in this thread.

My daughter just bought a pair of Blondo booties without my input. The SA at Nordstrom told her they would be great commuting shoes. She just started a full-time job downtown and has to get from the bus on 2nd up the hill to 7th.
I had told her that when I started out I wore a pair of black cobbie cuddler loafers to get from bus/car to work and kept a collection of pumps in various colors under my desk. Oh, the days of mandatory hose and uncomfortable heels. Glad that there are so many options today.
My mom, who has foot issues (highest arch and type 2 diabetes) is always returning shoes. The last ones she bought before going into rehab and a wheelchair were Cobb Hill. She was able to get out last weekend and bought a pair called BZEES that have a stretchy knit upper and lightweight sole. She is doing limited walking with a walker, but so far, so good.

My feet have probably never seen a pair of shoes over $100 (well except running shoes). J-41 was a brand I tried tis summer and ended up wearing a open sandal from them to walk all day long in Paris with no issues. Priced well:

I do think your best bet is to make a trip to a large shoe/dept store. Ask for a salesperson who is experienced and tell them about your burning issue - who knows, they may have a recommendation!!

In one comfortable shoe thread someone jokingly pointed out that most women’s comfort shoes look like baked potatoes. Every time I shoe shop I think, “Does this shoe look like a baked potato?”. Sadly, many shoes fit the bill.

I mentioned Ahnu upthread, but they didn’t make the list.
:frowning:

I have to say, I also would give a vote for Ahnu. Very comfy.

I guess I’m lucky to not have too many feet/shoe issues. The baked potato analogy is funny but man, true!!

And if you have larger feet… large baked potatoes. :frowning:

I mentioned Bzees by Natualizer, but it looks like I spelled it wrong! I spelled it Beezees, but you are right. It’s actually Bzees. So comfortable. Do they make dressier styles? The one I have is quite causal…for blue jeans, not dresses. Also extremely lightweight to hold.
