Comfortable Women's Shoes?

Mephisto sandals are not on the list yet. I have the same type of foot and live in the Helene style all summer.

I know the shopping center where HIMom shops… Their Nordstrom’s shoe department is not the best, sadly.

Burning sensation on the bottom of feet can be a sign of nerve damage due to a variety of conditions.

OK, here’s the updated list. Please let me know if there are others I should add or comments I should make about the various shoes. Thanks!

BunsenBurner, is there a store on Oahu where you believe there is a better selection? I have not been thrilled with our Nordstrom’s either, but we have rather limited options in our state and I so much prefer to try on before buying and ordering more. Thanks to anyone who has suggestions of good shoe stores on Oahu.

I’m not sure if the burning sole issue is from friction burn or an allergy to the glue/footbed/innersole, but only experience it when barefoot when I wear footwear and do prolonged walking. I do NOT wear socks or stockings or anything with dressier footwear. Yes, perhaps having footwear that conforms more to the contours of my feet and doesn’t have friction might work better.

I’m not sure but HATE the burning sensation. I’ve had this issue for many years with different footwear and don’t believe it’s nerve damage, diabetes or other serious condition.

Burning sensation on the soles of the feet can be a sign of nerve problems which might not be nerve damage. This is an article about “hot foot,” a burning pain that cyclists sometimes experience on long rides:
http://www.roadbikerider.com/injuries/how-solve-painful-hot-foot

Most of the suggestions are irrelevant for people who are having the problem when not cycling, but this seems on point:

So it sounds like if a pair of shoes is causing burning pain on the bottom of the foot, it might be because the toe box is not wide enough, and as the foot swells throughout the day, the nerves get squeezed.

Ok. Thanks for those thoughts. Spent some time trying on shoes at Macy’s and Walking Co (the latter with built in orthotics). Couldn’t find anything that was REALLY comfortable and dressy. Will continue the hunt.

Sigh, HIMom. I can’t think of any store there that can be better than Nordstrom. Macy’s gone downhill… The rest either caters to high end tourists or sells flipflops. :frowning:

I found this

Have you been there?

I didn’t see Fly London on your list. My low volume feet are wide in front, esp. due to bunions, but I have an extremely small heel. Thus, actual wide size shoes tend not to work for me. I also have hallux rigidus in one foot, meaning it really can’t bend much at all so a rigid sole is best for me. For the most part, I find that lace-up shoes give me the most support and work the best as the day goes on. I have the Fly London Ylva and ended up giving the Yala (which is cuter) to DD because it was a tad too narrow for me. Amazon offers quite a few Fly Londons. The brand’s style veers clunky funky, but the Piat wedge looks like it would look great if one has a high arch and the soles are great for walking.

Fly London, Dansko, and ECCO only come in Euro whole sizes so fit may also depend on where you fall in their sizing.

Thanks–@CCelloObsessed. Have never heard of this store. Will check it out. Have not heard of Fly London before.

I may try Uyeda Shoe Store, which is a family shoe store and specializes in problem feet, including orthotics. They have great Yelp and other reivews.

I love Fly London!

HIMom, if your feet never get that burning sensation when you wear socks, maybe you should consider wearing flats (not ballet flats, but flats with a 0.5-1 inch heel) with “invisible” footies. Or any type of somewhat closed shoe that accepts those.

Thanks–I have considered “peds” or similar but want to explore and exhause other options first. I’ve never been a fan of any stocking-type material.

Here’s hoping that family shoe store (which I plan to spend time and money at tomorrow) can help! If they do, I’m going to return with my sister who has different foot problems–very wide feet.

Dang–the family show store closed for a week and is moving from one location to another a block away. They were all there today, busy with the move and had their store locked with signs about the move. I will try back after their move. They did seem very nice from the short time I spoke with them.

So sorry Himom. I was hoping you’d post about your find.

Oh, I was hoping for a happy shoe shopping report! Guess we will have to wait a bit. Hope that the new location is bigger and brighter.

I’m wearing “Delma” (edited) heels from Naturalizer–strappy—about 2 inches–very comfortable for wide toe box.

Just thought I’d let everyone know that I found a shoe that fits my current size 6.75 feet. They are Bass “Melinda” clogs-very comfy, and neither too big nor too snug. The ones I got are 6.5 so they run a little large. Obviously not dressy, but maybe someone might find this helpful.

Thought of you today @HImom when I was shoe shopping at Nordstrom Rack…

I ended up with two pair that were extremely comfortable. These, I feel in LOVE with - the brand Cobb Hill, is by New Balance - maybe that’s why the inner lining is so comfy - I noticed it says in this description that there is a microfiber lining to keep foot soft and dry - didn’t know if that would help you out (but I will wear these with bare feet or MAYBE tights… http://www.6pm.com/cobb-hill-gina-teal

I also bought a pair of Easy Spirit (or their brand that is just letters - ESO?) black flats that are SUPER comfortable and cushy!!
