Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@ArthurDent42 Tell Cornell that you will read Vogon poetry to them if they do not raise your FA

@TheWaffleMan149 Oh now that made my day, you hoopy frood!!!

*you paranoid android

Biology here focusing on a pre-med track

@Swimmer726 I feel you. My parents don’t come close to qualifying for aid but I have 3 younger siblings right behind my tail getting ready for college too. I have to pay full tuition at Cornell so I’m using the time most kids use for RD apps to apply for scholarships.

Does anyone know anybody who was accepted, not deferred, by the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management this year?

Gotta love how this thread has come to a dead stop in activity after the 10th…lol…

Yeah me

Now, I am just thinking about to find a way out to improve my resume next 3 months, we can submit new transcript, recommendation letter, activities for deferred students right?

Is there any sort of official facebook group for Cornell class of 2020 with only accepted applicants? Also, is there a CC chain for accepted applicants?

also in case anyone doesn’t know, you can get a free “class of 2020 cornell” t shirt on the store website. admissions . store . cornell . edu

@NewBigRed Just out of curiosity, how did you find out about this?

@marchmattness13 well I was looking up a bunch of Cornell merch (I’m so excited :D) and I realized a lot of the stuff online was for class of 2016 since they’re graduating. So I googled “cornell class of 2020 store” and the first link to come up was for the shirt!

I’m guessing that Cornell is going to send us an email or something? Maybe later in the year? Not sure why it wasn’t mentioned in the acceptance letter…

Also, apparently your parents get a free “cornell parent” sticker or something :stuck_out_tongue:

@ibandcollege are you from New York state?

Can someone look at my post (the last one) on the result page and speculate as to why I didn’t get in? I struggle with anxiety disorder and kind of lost it after I found out that I got rejected :))

@Homsar I skimmed it. Perhaps the low SAT 2 score in biology along with the biology research position, both indicating you are interested in biology…yet you intend to major in physics? Not that that’s a bad thing, biology is cool (although I like physics more, lol). Also, you said it yourself in your reflection, you spread yourself quite thin, there’s a lot of stuff in your EC’s that could have come off as trying to impress colleges instead of actually pursuing a passion…I’m no expert on this stuff though…I hope your continued search for the right school goes well, live long and prosper!!!

@ArthurDent42 Haha I literally switched everything from biological sciences to physics and engineering this year. Wonder what would have happened if I said Biology as my Major lol but no point in speculating. Have fun at cornell next year!!

@Homsar I agree with @ArthurDent42 in their comment above. Also, I would just echo what you said in your refelction, and perhaps your application didn’t show a strong enough interest in physics. You look like a good applicant from what I can see, so maybe your essays or other subjective things had an impact on the rejection? The test scores were probably a factor, though I’m no admissions officer, so I don’t know to what degree. Good luck on the rest of your apps!

@Homsar Yeah man, certainly not trying to be mean or anything, but changing your focus during the end of your high school year doesn’t look good…if you look at my result post, I discussed this in my final two paragraphs of reflection…good luck to you!!! DON’T PANIC!!!
