@evan81 I think I am suitable enough to answer your question since I’m an enrolling international. Yes, Cornell offers financial aid to internationals but it is limited. In my experience with the past application cycle, internationals who applied ED actually had a better chance of getting aid. I applied RD and though I was one of the lucky ones who got aid, not everyone I know who got in was offered financial aid. So if you believe Cornell is an absolute fit and you absolutely want to go there, do apply ED.
@Encord thanks for that. I will defo apply ED then. How did you find the application process for an international? Was it easy to navigate?
@evan81 lol no problem. Yeah it actually wasn’t hard to navigate. Once you fill out the CSS Profile you’re basically done. Then later on, they might ask for your paper work to justify your parents’ income.
@Encord great, thanks for your help. Wish me luck!
@evan81 Good Luck!!! If you need anymore help feel free to PM me. I hope you make it into the class of 2020
@Encord Does Cornell offer application fee waiver for international students?
@samuelfrimps yes they do. On common app, I chose the section that said my guidance counselor could provide proof of my financial situation because that’s the instruction she gave. So I’d advise you to first find out from your guidance counselor the measures you need to take in order to obtain a fee waiver.
I know cornell does not use score choice and requires you submit ALL scores. This is definitely the case for sat1 scores, but i’ve been wondering whether this is necessary for subject tests. CAS requires any two subject tests so if i took three, can i just submit the two i want?
According to this thread below, most people are saying that for subject tests, as long as you meet the requirements of the college you are fine. Also, the warning sign for not sending everything pops up for sat1 but not sat2. So I really hope this is true!
Around what percent do you guys think recruited athletes take up in the ED round.
Hey everyone I remember what it was like to be in your situations of applying and it’s super stressful! I was offered a guaranteed transfer and now I’m enrolling in the fall. If any of you have a question (specifically ILR) feel free to ask me via personal message.
So has Cornell released the supplemental essay prompts yet? Is this it, or is this last year’s?

Also, many have said in this thread that you should do ECs based on your intended major. I’m obsessed with astrophysics (Carl Sagan is my Homeboy, and all the more reason why I like Cornell), but when I tried to do volunteered research in physics/astronomy at a local college this summer, I ended up getting nothing after a long back-and-forth email conversation between a few professors (note I inquired about this waaaaay back, quite a few months ago, I think it was early February). I’m not mad at the professors at all, mind you, because instead of just shrugging me off as some high school bum trying to sculpt his college app, they legitimately tried to get me into a research position with a recently hired physics professor, but unfortunately the professor in question had already gotten her hands full with undergrad students for the summer. Of course, I guess they decided to help me because I had met many of them after shadowing tons of their classes and hanging out with one on job shadow day; they’re great people. I will definitely be applying to this local college as a backup plan, and I got a job at a dog kennel to at least occupy myself this summer after the research position ship had sailed (of course such a job doesn’t match my passion at all…). But I digress. So, with that in mind, how am I supposed to make it look like I have any interest in astrophysics if my application lacks anything remotely like it besides vice pres of mu alpha theta and a couple of somewhat-hard-to-get science awards through BSA? Is the essay my only choice? I don’t even know how some of you CCers do it; I’ll be scrolling through the Cornell 2019 ED Results and half of you just put on there like it’s no big deal, “Summer Activity: Internship through Harvard Neurosurgeon Program for Super Smart People, Performed Triple Bypass on dying patient through Columbia Heart Surgery Internship for High Schoolers, Cured AIDs, Cured Cancer, Won a Nobel Prize in Physiology and a Nobel Prize in Chemistry…Intended Major: PREMED!! I am in the same boat as @ArthurDent42 and would really appreciate help on this topic
So, Arts and Sciences recommends 4 years of science but only requires 3. I have two questions about this: 1) will it significantly damage my application if I don’t take a fourth year (the rest of my app is pretty stellar, you can find it in the chances thread) and 2) does AP Computer Science count as a science? I contacted their admissions rep but never got a response.
@daniel98609 AP Computer science is counted as a math elective on college board. Taking 3 may not hurt you depending on what the science courses were(ex:ap physics,ap chem, apbio). What were the ones you took?
@Gatortristan Gen Biology, Chemistry, and AP Chemistry. I’ll probably take APES next year but there might be some scheduling issues.
@daniel98609 I suggest you take APES as well. not sure how much it’ll make a difference but everything counts haha
I have a question. My school doesn’t allow freshmen to take any science courses. So I have only 3 years of science, but i took a heavy load of science courses.
Will that hurt my application?
@idealni1 I think you’ll be fine. After all, the four courses are only a recommendation, and if you took the most difficult classes possible to take I think you’ve done your best.
