Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@Aggarwala when I got the email my interviewer asked me if I wanted to be interviewed, and I said yes. She then gave me a day that she was available to interview me and we set up the interview. It was very informal, she wore jeans and it was incredibly casual. If you don’t get an interview don’t worry because it really doesn’t matter.

@ayylmao1 @Tryharding mine was basically the same thing. Basically my guy asked me a few questions “Why Cornell?” and “Why early decision?” and then it was primarily questions I had for him. Though he did ask for EC’s, classes, which EC means the most, etc.
Also apparently it’s a little bit more than informative: The interviewer writes up a small paragraph about you after the thing goes. In his words, its “…to make your application come to life” so it might not be completely pointless. though i can’t imagine it doing much towards your chances

I just got an email offering to set up an interview, but I’m not applying to any of the colleges that require an interview, and I’m really busy in the next few weeks. Am I allowed to politely decline the interview?

@avelineember I would advise to take the interview if it is offered. Though there may be no correlation, out of the seven kids that EDed from my school last year, 3 accepted the interview…only those three ended up getting admitted. So if say it’s worth it just incase. An hour won’t kill you

Hmm…That’s not fair for those who didn’t get offered interviews.
For me, I live abroad and there are no near alumni here, so would that mean I have a disadvantage for not being able to participate in an alumni interview?

@seniorlife555 no you won’t have a disadvantage.

oh okay haha

@seniorlife555 don’t read too much into this “interview” thing. The lack of one does not put you at a disadvantage/advantage. This is precisely why Cornell does not require admissions interviews: they can’t possibly interview everybody in every part of the country/world. It’s more of a matter where you live, if there are alumni volunteers in your area etc. My daughter was contacted last year when she was applying ED and the guy never got back to her to set anything up. She emailed and phoned multiple times. Rude, IMHO, but nonetheless, she never got together with him and she was accepted ED. So don’t worry about this, guys!

The reason why Arch. and Hotel have interviews is 1) for Arch: it’s a portfolio review and 2) for Hotel, they want to see your personality since this is a very service oriented business. Also, both of these schools are very small, so they are able to require an interview as part of their process.

Hey everyone, first time posting on this thread and a bit tad late I suppose. Anyways Im also an ED applicant and wish everyone the best of luck, but I have just one problem.

I didnt file for financial aid because I thought I did it after results were given. Im a US citizen currently abroad and my parents werent much help so I just found out recently. Is there still a chance to give in my financial aid papers?

I applied for communication in CALS, and the interviewer asked me if I know why my communication major is in the college of agriculture and life science. This question came out of no where and I didn’t know what to say…

Herro. First post here.
Apparently I’m really late. I’ve been reading these threads for the past couple of days and thought I may as well make an account. I applied ED to CALS.

Anxiety is inverse to time:

my son has applied ED to CAS, his major is econ.

It looks like financial application is due by Nov 1 for ED.

You can still turn in financial aid applications if you do it asap

The essay I have written for COE has a very good idea in it ( Approved by PHDs in that field)
I don’t need any kind of fin aid.
I am from India and from a city which does not have many applicants let alone any apps to Cornell.
Please chance me. Thanks

@avelineember: What did you decide to do? I wouldn’t chance it. Going to the interview probably won’t help or hurt very much, but not going would be suicide. After all you put into your application, why do that? And I wouldn’t wait to get back to the person that emailed you either. Don’t give them a reason to say anything negative.

From what I have read, the interviews are casual so it shouldn’t be too stressful even though you have other stuff going on. Just come up with a few questions about Cornell and be confident and friendly! Try to find a few things you have in common with the interviewer and remember they want you to love Cornell and to go there .Good luck and let us know how things go…

gah, had my interview on Saturday and I didn’t get to talk about Cornell as much as I wanted to, bleh. Interview still went fairly well imo, we talked about my ECs, how well I worked in a group, and questions I had for my interviewer. In retrospect, I had much more to say, but there’s nothing I can do about it now, :frowning:

Let’s keep this thread “chance” free please. There are other places to post chance threads and this thread is to discuss ED applications and ED related questions

I agree no chances and pls don’t put all your stats either

After seeing @Rahulbarcafan stats I am extremely demotivated.
