I didn’t get the interview. Is the interview from Cornell selective? or I am a little bit concerned.
nope + it doesn’t even count towards the application; it’s “informational” and “for you to learn about cornell”
Cornell currently deploys a well-established and widely used first-year admissions process
composed of two rounds: Early Decision (ED) and Regular Decision (RD).
“For RD applicants, the FA application deadline is February 15th annually. Ideally, FA begins
reviewing FA applications of admitted applicants around February 1, but the bulk of FA reviews
will occur in March as admissions decisions are finalized by the colleges and schools. The
timeliness of FA packaging depends not just on the capacity of the office to review all
applications but also on the accurate completion of required documentation by applicants.” — this is from Cornell presidential task force on undergraduate admission report (Sep 2023)… based on this wording, It means some students were already admitted but not released yet ~Feb 1… as this stated, starting Feb 1, FA already started to revied financial aid… The recommendations of the task force for Charge #1 are as follows:
- Identify and recruit students who show the following attributes/life experiences that have
been identified as enriching the educational experience in the classroom:
a) Academic achievement, and achievement in other areas
b) Inquiry: intellectual rigor, passion, curiosity, creativity, exploration
c) Distance traveled: overcoming obstacles or barriers; experience working part
time; overcoming feelings of isolation or disempowerment, headwinds,
invisibility, struggles
d) Persistence: grit, resilience, perseverance, focus
10
e) Community orientation: demonstrate kindness, demonstrate compassion,
teamwork focus, impact, pride in culture or heritage, situational awareness,
service, engagement
f) Leadership: influential, trend-setter, lights up room
g) Knowledge of and appreciation for Cornell’s unique history and mission
Implementing this recommendation will call for comprehensive training of admissions
staff and readers to consistently identify these characteristics in application materials.
I keep getting extremely specific emails about my financial aid – for example, my W2 showed a little less income than on my tax return because I held a second job over the summer. Is this a good sign? You said that FA is reviewed for admitted students.
No one with any inside knowledge of how admissions works at Cornell said this.
Review the post I replied to:

It’s quoted from somewhere I’m trying to find it
If anyone is missing or has conflicting data, they get an email from the FA office. It is part of their job to make sure they have all the information for all applicants. It is not an indication of acceptance. Many of those decisions haven’t been made yet. If you read last year’s thread, many accepted applicants were waiting for their financial aid offers well into April. The FA office simply can not wait until the admissions office is done with their decisions to begin processing the financial aid docs.
I know waiting is hard, but Ivy Day will be here before you know it. I wish you the best!
Sometimes I wonder if the financial office’s requests for earlier documents, following past years’ data, which weren’t accepted despite being based on it, are truly 100% need-based, especially when they accept them closer to the notification date.
I’m sorry, I’m not following your question/comment. What are you trying to say?
In reviewing past years’ College Confidential and Reddit discussions, it’s evident that many admitted students were asked for IDOC near the notification date. However, the fact that colleges request IDOC early doesn’t necessarily indicate a positive outcome, as those who didn’t get admitted weren’t asked for IDOC early on.
I doubt it correlates. If I remember correctly, we received our IDOC request a few days after completing CSS.
While I can’t claim with absolute certainty that this is accurate, I have doubts regarding the claim that the financial aid decisions are entirely need-based. Several individuals who were asked for financial documents or IDOC from colleges earlier, including those who applied Early Action to USC, did not gain admission. After reading numerous posts, I’m interested in hearing from individuals who were asked for financial documents or IDOC earlier but still gained admission. I aim to compare their experiences against previous posts.
Many individuals believe that the accuracy of the financial aid portal’s predictions is questionable due to experiences like this
Frankly, you are off topic of this thread, which is about Cornell Class of 2028. Maybe start a new thread if you want to discuss the timing of financial aid requests as it pertains to a prediction of admission.
Oh. My responses were not for your post then sorry.
In the end the congratulations turned out to be correct! All the best for your future endeavors.
That means your file is complete, that is it. nothing else. the system will not even show even you were already admitted and processed-- as the official decision release data is 3/29 or later.
Yes. I know but it should say " recieved " or “processing” is normal?
If you don’t know , i hope others let me know please.
My daughter just got in to Cornell’s school of hospitality today. First, how is this even possible? I thought everyone finds out on Ivy Day. I guess not!! I know nothing about the program and we have not visited yet. What can other share? Pros? Cons?
Congratulations! Cornell does send out early acceptances to a small number of their top candidates. If she is seriously considering this school, you should definitely visit during an admitted student event this spring.
