Cornell Class of 2029 Official Thread

Congratulations. Daughter was also accepted, math major. - 99.3 QPA, 1480 SAT, lots of EC and leadership. No research or internships, so we are sort of pleasantly surprised.

Is there a WL thread yet?

I was going to submit the waitlist reply form right away since it seemed like it was a simple yes/no option. However, once I clicked yes, the form said you could submit updated materials here (with an option to upload files). This is different from what I expected - I thought you upload the materials later as supplemental. Does anyone know if the process changed? Or if I can still submit the supplemental materials later after submitting the form first?

asked this in the TO thread but not sure if its active:

hello, i got a TO! however, I’m considering another college w/ a completely diff major bc its way higher ranked. does anyone know if I can take some of the courses at a local community college bc my college might not have some of my req just in case I want to keep the option on the table

You can submit materials later yes. We just did the yes no to get it in.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about the Meinig National Scholarship. I got it in my financial package, so does that automatically make me a Meinig Family Cornell National Scholar or do I have to apply? I haven’t received any emails about it.

My son’s friend wants to know, and I’m curious now - how does TO relate to WL? Are WL ever moved ā€œupā€ to TO? (Friend was WL)

Yes, a student on the waitlist could be offered a transfer option at the end of the cycle (late June). It depends on the school. The COE has not offered them. If you go read the thread title ā€œCornell Waitlist Class of 2028,ā€ you’ll see when students were offered spots off the waitlist and when TOs were offered at the end of June.

What’s most important is to make a deposit by May 1 at an accepted school.

Waitlisted COE. Portal astro was and still is: I could see the Go button on FA, and all my FA says processing. Did not see any grants. Accepted spot on waitlist but will probably enroll in Harvey Mudd College with $50k in 1st year grants.

Will the upload materials button appear again even after you click the yes and submit the form? My son said he clicked the yes button and there’s an upload files button before hitting the submit button.

Once you submit it there is a ā€œsubmit newā€ button next to it.

Hi! Does anyone know if Cornell does acceptance packages? Not expecting something huge but do they mail a formal letter or give stickers??

I got a scholar thingy so I got a letter already congratulating me for that-- but no ā€œCongrats on your admissionā€ type of thing. Just curious, I really want a sticker!

My daughter got a tshirt the other day - but I think she had to go online and specify the size. I don’t remember if she got anything else.

Someone please help :people_hugging:

Write a ONE-page love letter to Cornell.

Paragraph 1: State how Cornell remains your first choice and that you will immediately accept if offered a place.

Paragraph 2: Give 2-3 updates since you submitted your application. It could be about an award you’ve since won. It could be about a project you completed or a competition that your debate team was in. It could be about an event that you led with an afterschool group.

Paragraph 3: Reiterate paragraph 1.

I also think it could work (if you haven’t done this yet e.g. if deferred) to have one more rec letter in which the teacher talks about (1) Cornell’s core values compared to (2) your development and wonderfulness specifically senior year.

I have written several such letters for seniors I was teaching, and according to guidance, they are meaningful.

Finally, at some schools the guidance counselor will make a telephone call on your behalf to Admissions. I’m not exactly sure what this entails since I’m not a gc.
