Cornell Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

as a GT, you still have to fulfill a certain gpa requirement and take the courses that cornell wants you to take. It is bascially a more condensed/certain form of the transfer application but if we complete these requirements, we are 100% in. The GT/TOs are given during your senior yr of HS when cornell notices ur interest and wants you, but 1) they cant admit everyone and 2) they think that you would be better off getting experience from another institution beforehand. usually TO/GT is given to applicants with lower stats (ex: 1300-1400 SAT) Each school gives out transfer options and has their own set of requirements.

@JellyPeeps idk what you mean by “running the odds”, but GT and non-GT decisions are announced at the same time on a rolling basis. There isn’t a set number that cornell reserves for us.

@racecarava What I mean is that some decisions are being released and some decision dates are approaching and people are getting both excited and nervous. So they are trying to figure out what their chances are. SO they are taking whatever information they can gather to trying to figure out their odds. A lot of people are not familiar with GT applicants or the process, so it makes sense that there is a lot of chatter about it.

It is days like today where I just wish time would go by faster. I had a dream that I was accepted to Cornell that’s how much it’s on my mind. I guess we are all in this together.

Does the college of engineering have GT?
If there are many GTs, does it mean that there will be fewer regular transfers?

Yeah, I know what a GT is, it’s not complicated. The California UC system has something similar called TAG for community colleges. I TAGed a school, fulfilled the requirements, and I know I’m in despite NOT receiving my letter YET because that is the agreement. If you fulfill the reqs, you’ll be fine! There’s literally nothing else to it? I’m just saying that GTs (reqs fulfilled) need to chill, since GT stands for Guaranteed Transfer. We are all prospective Cornell students, I am confident we understand the word guaranteed.

I’m sorry for my annoyed attitude but this thread can’t be filled with people that are already GUARANTEED a place at Cornell! They aren’t the ones who have to worry about fighting for spots! To all GTs with reqs completed, congrats! Now cheer on the actual transfers please. It doesn’t matter if your financial aid checklist changed for initiated to ordered, YOURE IN.

Well, I am not a GT. Lol

In conclusion, GT means Guaranteed Transfer. If you don’t understand what Guaranteed means, consider withdrawing your application.

To all non GTs, a few more weeks! Let’s all try to hang in there. Accepted or not-accepted it is not a reflection of our capabilities as a student or person. Keep on keepin!

@JellyPeeps ugh thank god. Maybe next years thread should be titled “Cornell Fall 2020 NON GT thread” god damn.

I have been accepted at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and rejected by Williams, so far. No word on my other applications.

@JellyPeeps woah UMich is awesome! even if you get rejected from cornell you will have a great place to go.

@transferrrrrrcc Thanks! It was actually my first choice for a long time because my preferred program is tied for 1st in the country with Harvard, Princeton, and Berkley. So I am sitting pretty nice as is.

@transferrrrrrcc Sorry about being unsure but I am only concerned because I missed one of the requirements and that usually makes the “guaranteed” part almost not applicable. When you fall below the requirements, it is no longer 100% and I have been trying this whole semester to communicate and make up for it. Regardless of whether or not we’re a GT, shouldn’t we all at least support each other? because we still had to go through a year of college feeling confused and lost because this was certainly not a short and easy process.

I get what you are saying, but others who are not GT had to go through more than just one year of being confused and some of us have already had rejections. That’s why it would have been useful to have two different threads so that the students without an edge can support each other. If you are GT that’s great, but not everyone has that peace of mind.

But regardless, I do want to support everyone. I would like to get into Cornell, but it’s not the end of the world so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

@racecarava you are not a GT anymore because you missed a req. in my opinion. but then again I am sure you realize that as someone that had a GT option, you have it better than non GTs. I recall someone saying earlier that they knew someone who missed 1 or 2 reqs and they were fine. So just sit back and relax! don’t worry man.

I’m not trying to NOT cheer on GTs, it’s just redundant because it’s guaranteed. I do hope you get in.

@transferrrrrrcc Yes, thank you. But you also have to realize that upon accepting the offer, we were just as uncertain as you guys when it came to the application. We enter our first year of college knowing that we might leave or not, just like you guys. As someone who was going through this process, it was nothing but a pain predicting I where I was going/staying because there is NO WAY you can be certain. I only came to this thread for information or ppl who could relate to the transfer process. It doesn’t matter if you’re a GT or not, you can never know what happens if behind the admissions office. Dismissing GTs because we are ‘guaranteed’ and we make a big deal out of nothing when “we know” is just straight up pessimistic and such a generalization

Yes, we certainly have it better than non GT’s but we are stuck in this gray area of not being accepted as a first year and making the decision to reapply once again before we even enter our first year. It’s also a commitment that I know you guys have made as non GTs and I sincerely hope your hard work pays off soon

I was just looking at pictures of the Cornell library and wow, I’m in love! I’d given anything to study mathematics there!

@IndirectProofs you gotta check out the concepts for the new fine arts library then… it’s breathtakingly futuristic.
