I’m a twenty-six-year-old independent student and the possibility that we do not stand a chance because of our age certainly exists but I don’t think it’s probable. If so, there is nothing we could have ever done about it. However, I did see that on their transfer brochure they mention age diversity on campus. That’s a positive! Did you apply for financial aid? If so, what did you do about the non-custodial parent profile?
Guys by which phone can we contact Cornell transfer admissions?
This is just my personal opinion but I feel like the older you are the stronger your application needs to be to compensate. If you are older than perhaps you have been able to accomplish amazing things while you were not attending school. If you look under the transfer student profiles there is a woman who is definitely nontraditional but she made it!
I thought that generally, non traditional students have a better shot because they have lived through life and have many experiences to share. I know at Stanford they favor military who are non traditional. But I could be wrong?
@zwetsch I’ve read a few articles online about non-traditional students who were accepted to ILR specifically because of their non-traditional background! As long as your other stats are up to par, I would think that a unique background along with a demonstrated interest could be even more attractive to ILR than first-year applicants who have little to no real life experience.
I am the exact opposite and have reversed fears of the non-traditional applicant. I am a military dependent 17 years old with 60+ college credits. I graduated HS at 15 and have a 3.79 GPA. I am a nervous wreck thinking they will view me as too young lacking experience in other areas such as work history. The worst part is the waiting game makes us all question ourselves and our abilities over and over. I am hopeful that we will hear soon about decisions.
@Miniman1673 Even though you are younger, I still think that you have some of the benefits of other non-traditional applicants. Think of it this way: why WOULDN’T Cornell want a high-achieving 17 year-old who graduated at 15, already completed 60+ credit hours with a high GPA to prove himself, AND probably has unique life experiences that come with being a military dependent?
It’s all in how you perceive yourself! I think you probably have a great chance. I just can’t wait to see decisions, and then we can judge for ourselves.
I think we all have insecurities, especially when facing such monumental rejection. But, I just keep telling myself that no matter what happens, I will continue on a path forward. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and we just have to do the best with what we have!
I am rooting for all of us to end up in a good positions!!
I think your situation is fantastic. It portrays you as an advanced, proactive student; even a genius, perhaps. I don’t think you have anything to fear–quite the opposite: I think, it might be a nice distinguishing trait that will make you stand out. What other schools are you applying?
@strawberry109 @jackpot13211 Thank you both very much! Fingers are crossed for all of us.
@OwlOfAthena Thank you! I also applied to the following schools:
Accepted - Syracuse
Waiting - UCLA, Berkeley, UCSD, Reed, USC, Stanford, and UCI.
I’m happy that it’s each school that does the accepting. I think it’s cool that an admissions committee from CAS will be reading my application.
Any TOs still have initiated for their Financial Aid? I still do…
My daughter’s financial aid still shows as initiated and she’s a TO.
@brianlau7 and @Firstofmany When did you/your daughter get all your/her documents in? I realize the applicant portals just appeared last week so there was no ‘complete’ message any of us received- but when, in your opinion, was everything submitted by each of you that needed to be submitted? February? March? Or was it before or after those months?
yeah it really depends on how early you submit your documents
My application just became complete last week, so I wonder if it’s possible I could know this week if I’m accepted. I wish I knew more about how long I need to wait.
@PBMAX1 My daughters current school just had midterms 2 weeks ago. So she just uploaded the midterm report after that. Everything else was completed a while ago.
Everyone, do not be expecting any wave of decisions release this week. It has been said by a CALS admissions counselor that it will start next Tuesday the 23rd. Try to stay calm and go through the week without getting too jittery! It’s all out of your hands at this point and it’s just about hoping for the best that Cornell thinks you’re a fit to their university. Regardless of how the results turn out, you guys will be fine wherever you are!
@enviscimath11 thank you so much! It is hard to pass the time, but I’m doing it by submitting more math solutions! I’m just going to make a goal to solve as many as possible! It helps me feel happy and not think about decisions so much.
