Coronavirus thread for June

I dont get why Social Distanced graduations cant happen, but protests can. Well I do get how the protests are about injustice and the graduations and other things are just “nice to haves”. But at this point, there has to be compromise to allow a well thought out “nice to have”. Its seems like the worse scenario are the graduation parties that the schools cant control.

Graduations are happening in some places. I suggest contacting the particular school’s administration and asking whether something can be set up. I live in a suburb of Madison, Wis. The current plan is for the high school to have a delayed, in-person graduation ceremony in late July.

Disagree. Fauci has said that the protests were “perfect” for spreading COVID. However, you have to search to find his remarks since they don’t fit with the MSM narrative (so he’s not getting much press right now).

I watch MSNBC. There have been many segments about the protests possibly leading to the spread of COVID-19.

One of the reasons the crowds of protesters might spread covid more than just groups in stores or at parks is that the protesters are singing, shouting, taking loudly to be heard over sirens and street noises. Spittle everywhere.

Also, the tear gas and pepper sprays cause coughing and watering eyes, sneezing and other bodily fluids to be expelled.

I both heard and read what Fauci had to say about protesting and CV19.

Also my Governor has talked about it every day in his pressers and told all protesters to assume they are infected and to get tests.

In my city there has been dedicated testing site for both protesters and first responders who were at the protests here.

Also, there are 15 dedicated site for protesters to get tested in NYC.

Today, my county executive said there has been no uptick here due to Memorial Day weekend, but now we have to be looking out for protest related uptick.

He also said people in their 20’s are now the leading cohort in # of cases with the next highest being people in their 50’s. These numbers are from the beginning of reported cases.

The tear gas is a kicker here- my daughter said nearly everyone was masked the entirety of protests until they were tear gassed- then the masks came off while people tried to clean their faces. My daughter tried to clean her face and had brought extra masks in baggies for emergencies, but many people remained maskless at that point.

I don’t know how Dr. Fauci can say, with a straight face, that these events ‘could POSSIBLY lead to the spread of COVID’. These events are the exact types of activities we have been told must not take place for any reason because they are guaranteed to spread COVID. Ah, the tangled web we weave when we try to PC deceive.

At minimum, there is not possible reason to keep a park, beach or national campground closed. NONE of those activities come close to the risk of signing, chanting and talking - shoulder to shoulder - with 20K people.

The young people at the protests likely have little to fear from the virus. Most were healthy, at least healthy enough to walk for blocks. But if they are around older people or live with someone with obesity or diabetes or one of the underlying conditions, those people could be infected and hospitalized or die. So it’s not just the protesters who should be tested it’s anyone who has come in contact with a protester.

Our public health director asked anyone attending the protests to quarantine themselves. I doubt that is happening.

Fauci said, “It [protests] is the perfect set up for the spread of the virus in the sense of creating some blips which might turn into some surges.” He hasn’t made his concern a secret.

As we move forward, I keep saying I’ll need a vaccine before I’ll feel safe, particularly because H is very high risk. But this article had some information I had not seen before.

Ironically, my local newspaper proudly reported today that my county’s positivity rate is 10.1%, almost as low as the governor is requiring to be able to completely open up! It just confirms for me that we should not be moving so fast to open up.

My gym in S Palm Beach has you sign in for a class 24 hours in advance. Only so many can be allowed. Classes are offered on line. No one I know has returned, so I have no idea how crowded Is the regular part of the gym.

One of the differences is, imo, the 1st Amendment right to peaceable assembly. You have no such right, under the constitution, to go to the beach, park or campground for recreation purposes.

The difference is twofold. One the protests aren’t organized, they are organic. The powers to be aren’t stopping them. For reasons I am sure I don’t need to explain here.

Graduations have to be an organized event. They aren’t organic. If coronavirus spread from an organized event, and people died, they could sue. No one is going to willfully organize an event where there could be harm involved.

My part of Virginia moves to phase 2 on Friday.

Tonight, I’m engaging in a a “soccer-like” activity with some friends and then going to the outdoor part of the beer garden where we’ve been going on Tuesdays for years.

In California, no law or barrier shall be put in place to deny public access to tidal waters.

And my right to peacefully assemble was violated when I was allowed only 10 mourners at my mom’s funeral. And those in similar situation continue to have that right violated.

Fortunately, of the hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) of protesters, the large majority were not teargassed.

It seems like PA has discontinued the zip code map. I can’t find it today. If it’s gone for good, I’m definitely bummed because I liked knowing how many cases were close to me and areas I would go to for shopping and things. Now the best I can find is by county, but we don’t go all over the county.

Does anyone know if it’s gone for good? I looked at it on Sunday, so it’s only been gone for two days at most.
