We have no mandatory mask policies in Dallas. I live in far north Dallas, almost to the closest suburb.
Yesterday DH was working at our new house that is being re-modeled. I offered to bring him some lunch, so I went to Eatzi’s to get him a custom salad. I noticed customers over 40 or so were all wearing masks, but customers in their 20s were not.
At my grocery store (suburb just north of Dallas), I am seeing very good compliance.
Even within a locality it can depend on place, day and time. Saturday night at local grocery store - 25% compliance. Walmart Sunday morning - 75% compliance. But I bet Saturday night at Walmart would not have been as high. The earlier in the day, the better it seems.
Target/Lowe’s at differing times, I’d peg somewhere around 2/3 compliance, maybe even 75%. Since the governor order, it has improved a lot, but still nowhere close to 100% or almost everyone. (I also count those with them below their nose as compliant). Southern VA
My husband, who is active duty military, has now been told that he will continue to work from home through the end of July. His workplace is doing a phased in approach and he and another coworker will the last to be brought back. His job is very easily accomplished well from home, luckily. He still has to serve duty each month, and has since stay at home began. They do require and enforce mask wearing in all work and public buildings on base.
Ask your store to be more vigilant with customers. <<<<

I don’t think any retail establishment has the obligation to enforce mask wearing, I really don’t. This is an america problem. Do not ask some poor store manager to enforce this, if you feel strongly about those unmasked patrons, you face off with them yourself. Do you see the group that works in retail? You think they don’t have enough to deal with? Most of them are literally what we refer to here as kids.
That’s a terrible idea. My son starts his summer job at a grocery store tomorrow. The last thing he needs is a store full of disease spreaders who won’t wear masks.
They should require people who say they can’t wear a mask to wear a face shield.
Yes, I agree the disease spreader shopping hour is a terrible idea. But the reality is there are plenty of retail workers who don’t want to wear a mask either.
I don’t think it’s my obligation to put myself at further risk to personally confront the nonmasked. Costco has a large sign at the entrance mandating mask wear, and it’s working. What I saw yesterday was a change from what I’d seen previously, and it’s discouraging.
If a store has a policy/sign at the door saying “masks required” they should enforce it. They have policies against shoplifting, no-shirt-no-service, etc. - I think neither of these has life threatening consequences - so if they have the policy they should have a solid attempt to enforce it (meaning you will still miss some, some will enter with mask, take it off, etc.) Gimme gimme, gets - when people see the store “gimme” no mask reinforcement then that non-mask believer “gets” silent permission to continue to be a non-wearer.
Also referring to retail workers as “the group who works in retail” is a terrible statement.
I think it is the establishment’s responsibility to enforce its rule, or don’t have it. I don’t think it is the customer’s responsibility. If the store doesn’t want to enforce it rule then I would give my feedback on Yelp or Google feedback.
So the mayor or NYC is intentionally obfuscating data relating to how this spreads. Now NYC can close gyms, churches etc because of a new outbreak all the while sincerely saying ‘we can’t say it was related to the protests’.
If this is true (has anyone asked him or independently verified this?), its unconscionable. We need more information, not less information on the spread of this virus! If it turns out the protests DIDN’T cause major spread (which is a possibility - being this was outside, and alot of mask wearing) it would be good information to have. Likewise if its not. Similar to the playing with the reporting of numbers in Florida, this kind of stuff just makes my blood boil.
I continue to find Dr Scott Gottlieb reports very even keeled, informative, and non-partisan. For those that are interested, these 2 interviews are very informative regarding the current state of CV and about how businesses shut themselves down in March before the country gave guidance (example - the NBA didn’t get shut down by the government, they shut themselves down).
Wait, is NYC really welding shut the gates to a park in Brooklyn/Borough Park so kids don’t play outside? After all the protests that were allowed and cheered on?
I haven’t seen him on TV but I’ve heard him interviewed on several podcasts and also found the information helpful & clear. I have a similar reaction to hearing Dr. Amesh Adalja.
One of my friends dismisses Gottlieb out of hand due to his ties with the think tank AEI and Pfizer. I’m like, really? You cannot even listen to him? Take what you can use and leave the rest!
My employer is planning to start phase 1 of returning workers to our building on July 6. Employees won’t have to wear masks while at their work stations but will have to when away from their work stations, such as when going to the restroom, going to the kitchen, and while attending in-person meetings. People’s in-office schedules will be staggered. People won’t be able to deviate from the official in-office schedules unless they get their supervisor’s agreement.
I doubt I’ll be in the first wave of people returning to the office. I’d be happy to never have to return to the office.
We beat it to death but I had my mind broadened by various people’s opinions. I don’t know what would be best but people certainly brought up points I hadn’t considered.
