Thanks for the news about northern California. My younger daughter resides in one of the affected counties. She had been exercising outside; this directive will be stressful for her.
@“Cardinal Fang” we’re in Contra Costa county and I’m sad that we cannot even go out for a walk after today
This will be really tough. How are they going to enforce it?

Went out to pick up several prescriptions. Walgreens is limiting high demand items to 4 per person/family. Great, but…They had no hand sanitizer, no gloves, no face masks, no TP, no wipes, no bleach and only a very limited amount of OTC flu/cold meds and pain relievers.
There is a paper products wholesaler here in town. They don’t manufacture paper themselves but get giant industrial rolls of TP and paper towels and cut them into consumer usable sizes. They don’t sell to the public. They package and sell to commercial companies like business supply stores and industrial cleaning services. However, after hearing about the “TP crisis” on the local news, they have opened their doors to public. For $35 (cash only) they will sell you 96 rolls of TP. Get in line at the warehouse when it opens at 7am.
Apologies, but what he is doing is irresponsible. Time to take the car keys.
“No going out, not even going for walks or going on bike rides.”
Ugg. This is a terrible idea. We’ve got at least 10,000 teens within 1/2 hour or so, all of them off of school and bored to the point of madness. Evidently a good number of them decided to congregate at the mall today, the only place open for them. I understand that, in light of this, temporarily closing the mall might be necessary (and is likely). However, walks and bike rides, outside of congested urban areas, are perfectly safe and should be encouraged as an alternate form of entertainment.
Today DD drove me around for 1/2 hour, getting in some of her required practice hours of driving. We never got out of the car, never even left the neighborhood really. Can’t see how that put anyone at risk.
Someone posted on our online bulletin boards that they wanted to start a “Shamrock Hunt” for tomorrow. Folks are supposed to tape a shamrock cutout in their window, so parents of bored young children can take them for a safe, socially distancing walk, and look for shamrocks on people’s windows in the neighborhood. I thought that was a nice idea.
The thought of SF taking those small pleasures away from people is… not going to end well.
That is CRAZY that you can’t go for a walk. How is walking adding to a pandemic???
Thats not quite accurate. Walks are permitted- with people staying 6 feet apart.
“ All non-essential gatherings of any size are now banned, along with non-essential travel “on foot, bicycle, scooter, automobile or public transit.” People may travel for shopping for necessary supplies, accessing health care, and providing aid to family and friends who need assistance, and for non-residents, returning to their home outside the Bay Area. Airports, taxis, and public transit — including BART — will remain operational, but only for essential travel and people are expected to keep six feet apart when possible.
People in the six counties will still be able to go shopping for items such as food and household supplies, and seek medical care. They will be able to go outside for walks or exercise as long as they keep six feet away from anyone they don’t already live with.”
This is silly. People will be going outside. We’ll be at the beach in a little bit… (not California - water is too cold there!)
My NoCal daughter just gave me the info about exercise being allowed. I’m so relieved for her and everyone else around there!
I’m in the area, too, and it will be hard keeping the kids inside. But I’m glad we’re taking these steps. They’re still only testing people with “severe” symptoms," according to our health provider.
The San Francisco Chronicle, which supposedly has the draft order, is still reporting
“All non-essential gatherings of any size are now banned, along with non-essential travel “on foot, bicycle, scooter, automobile or public transit.””
I hope they’re wrong.

This was what my S’s orthodontist did this morning. Wait in your car, call them and they’ll come to get you one at a time.
My workplace (Madison, Wisconsin) directed the following this afternoon: The building will be closed to the public (i.e., nonemployees). Number of employees on site limited to 20. Only people who can’t work at home should request to work on site. Everyone else expected to work at home, starting tomorrow.
Grief!! Hate when info gets out in bits and pieces like a broken phone game!!!
I don’t get the not walking either. I was out a bit ago with the dogs and though others were walking no one was walking close to anyone. Everyone I saw was either several blocks ahead of me or on the other side of the street. Granted, I live in a strictly residential part of my town.
I was going to say how would a person with a dog not go out for a walk?! For dog’s sake!!!
Walk ban would make sense in Manhattan. There you’d be lucky to stay 6" away from another person. No way you can stay away 6’.
