@adreezybones I applied to Fullerton as well, still haven’t heard from them though. Last time I contacted them there was some confusion on my paperwork because i’m married and some of my paperwork has my maiden name and some doesn’t (they are the only school that has issues with my names). I did not check out both departments in person, I’ve been to both campuses (CPP and CSULB) before so I just really looked at not only the course catalog but what classes were actually on the schedules for the recent past semesters because there are some courses id really like to take. My current professor really only recommended 2 cal states for art history based on her knowledge; she said that (of course) UC and some private schools have stronger programs, but inside CA we are limited a bit.
@SexyAZn7 I am still looking for the original link I had found before and I’ll post it if I find it again; but the best bet for touring a department or sitting in a class is contacting one of the advisors in the department. I would call versus email, just because I find I get a faster response that way. They would for sure be able to direct you on how to do that. If you want to sit in, id take a glance at the current schedule and have a proposed class in mind.
@lulu1115 Yeah, it’s definitely the downside of being a transfer or a freshman student, but it all changes after one semester! I’m also worried about if I’ll be able to get in any of the required classes or if I have to be waitlisted, I guess we won’t find out until July
I think GE classes are the ones that fill up quickly, not sure though
I’m starting upper division once there I finished my GE, and lower. So I’m hoping it won’t be too hard to get classes but I don’t know. Are you doing lower or upper division once you transfer? I think your right GE are probably the harder ones so maybe we will be in the clear lol. Hope we get the classes we need. @ggdcal
Did you get a financial aid filing on your account? I filled it out and submitted it already I guess my financial aid didn’t link properly with the IRS data tool, so I had to do a few extra papers and get my info off the IRS site. @ggdcal
Wait, I’m not sure if this had already been asked, but in order to sign up for SOAR, you have to accept your admission offer, correct? I’m now at the stage where I don’t have any more to-dos, and I also got provisional admission as well after receiving conditional. Just want to make sure I’m on the right track. Oh, and how are people already signing up for SOAR? I thought it isn’t available until April 10?
Whenever I try to use the self applicant service on the csulb website it denies my access. I finished everything on my to do list. Anyone having a similar issue?
@pss321 You can sign up for the SOAR date in your student center on the bottom left of the page. Where did you see your admission change from conditional to provisional? I never received any emails about my conditional admission afterwards. Also, does anyone know if the first day of SOAR for the college of engineering is filled up already? I’m wondering if I can change my SOAR date to that.
@sc13251 I got an email that my admission is provisional now. And when I click that SOAR thing on the bottom left, it says that sign up is “not available” for my term so I think I have to SIR and pay the admission fee first before trying.
@lulu1115 I’m not actually sure if I’m taking upper or lower division, I’m assuming upper division since I have more than 60 transferable units. My main issue is, I heard for CSULB BFA majors, it’s not recommended to have more than a certain number of credits, because they probably will reject me from entering the BFA graphic design major. I’m not sure if that’s true though, but I’ll call or email to make sure.
Oh yeah! My financial aid had an error, and they said they couldn’t find me in the system, so I have to verify my citizenship. Which I already sent out, I think they messed up my name.
So I have a question for everyone, or anyone.
Slightly freaking out, I have a provisional admission, right?
I applied for graphic design, but if you don’t have a portfolio, you get placed into studio art. So… that made me think of assist.org.
So …do my pre-reqs have to be based off of studio art, NOT graphic design, or did all my counselors lie to me.
I’m missing ceramics from my pre-reqs for studio art, but it’s not on graphic design.
So…does this mean they’ll most likely rescind their offer?
@ggdcal honestly I dont think so. While it is a requirement for graduation in the degree, it’s not a requirement for admission. The requirements for admission are Art History 1&2, Foundation 2D and Foundation 3D. You’re just probably gonna have to take that class at CSULB as requirement for graduation.
I’m an Art Education Major and I’m missing Non-West AH but I still got in since I have completed the 4 required courses I mentioned above.
Got accepted a few weeks ago as a Studio Art major! I applied for the Illustration/Animation BFA but I guess I didn’t get in this first try I haven’t gotten an official e-mail accepting me to the school yet, I just checked the Self-Service and logged into my student portal. I saw on reddit that you don’t get an official conditional acceptance until they verify your transcripts (mine are still being processed, they were just sent out a bit ago). Also, I just registered for S.O.A.R on the first day COTA hosts their day on July 19th, so if you guys haven’t received an acceptance e-mail yet I would still check your student portal and register for S.O.A.R. at the link on the bottom left of your Student Center! I would do it now, the earlier the better cause classes fill up quick!! Good luck!
@adreezybones Okay thank you so much! I was freaking out, I sent them an email and contacted some friends who go to CSU schools for art, since they have a similar process.
My friend’s mom said it wasn’t a requirement, so they won’t rescind it unless I break any provisional admission rules.
Wait where did you see those are the admission requirements? I check assist.org but those are pre-reqs for graduation.
I completed all those admission requirements and all art majors are auto placed into the Studio Art option.
So if we chose a BFA major, but we need to create a portfolio for submission, are we working towards our BA in Studio Art as well as our chosen major, or just our chosen major?
Sorry I tend to overthink things, so I need to understand it more.
For the supplemental application, do you guys remember putting down any planned classes for Spring 2019?
I dropped two before the W date, because I realized I don’t need those classes and that I have taken classes which already fill that area of the pre-reqs for Graphic Design.
I’m not sure if this will effect if their decision. I already did the Golden Four, and the 4-5 required classes for studio art/graphic design and plenty of pre-reqs for both majors.
@ggdcal Trust me dude, I know how it feels. I’ve been overthinking things since I submitted my applications. Lol
If you’d read the notes on the transfer agreement on assist it states that the courses listed may not all be required for admission but is a requirement for the degree itself. You can also find the major specific requirements for each major at CSULB’s website.
As for your last question, I’m not so sure about that since I really chose BA Art (Art Education) as major from the very start. I literally was just checking the classes I would be needing to take earlier today. My classes would consist of various techniques/media along with “teaching” classes. I think studio art is various techniques/media while BFA courses focuses on your selected media.
@adreezybones
Ah yeah, I read that, all my counselors highlighted each course I would need to take in order to get into CSULB on assist, and told me they wouldn’t even look at my application unless I finished these highlighted ones.
But they also failed to mention I would be placed in studio art, I found that out in my own. After going to multiple counselors.
I’ll be sure to ask one of the counselors at SOAR! Thank you
