CSULB FALL 2019 Transfer Thread

please update when you know im scared i may not pass my calc class!

When transferring, do we need to submit a CSU GE Breadth certification? Is this required to transfer over all our lower divisions courses? I am missing one class from it and cannot get the certification until after my last summer class.

Does anyone know if we can register and pick classes before soar? My LB portal says i can register on the first of June, but I thought we had to wait or soar, or after we meet a counselor? @muzzles @ggdcal

@lulu1115 I am also curious about that.

@lulu1115 @sc13251 It says that for me too, but you’re only able to register for classes the exact day you go to SOAR, that’s why students said to bring their laptops or ipads so they can get help choosing classes.

@ONSOOO @busfinance
I called them a couple of times, first enrollment, then they told me to call the transfer center to ask about the dropping of classes. The employee on the phone told me it shouldn’t affect my application, if I dropped before the deadline and if it’s not within the golden four and as long as you have more than 60 credits that you’re able to transfer.
She also told me to email enrollment services for verification.

I’m pretty sure you need a min of 60 credits and a max of 90, but CSULB only allows 70 units to be transferred towards your degree, from a CC. So I hope that helped a little. Pre-reqs you can take at CSULB. But you need to do the main pre-reqs, like for me I have to take specific art courses to be applying for Studio Art.

@ggdcal thank you for the info! I was planning to give them a call right now but i cant find a number for the transfer center. I was hoping if you could maybe post it here. All i can find was the number for enrollment services.

@ggdcal thank so much for the information! If that’s the case, I should be okay but i’m still worried about how the class i dropped was a class for my major  By any chance, can you post the transfer center phone number on here? I can’t seem to find their specific phone number

@ONSOOO It’s 562-985-5358, they’ll also probably tell you to email to verify if the information they gave you was correct or not, so if you could get that email, and send it here please! Thanks!
I think the email was like es-tra-- and I couldn’t get the rest.

@ggdcal hello once again! I called that phone number and the first thing they asked was if the class I withdrew from was needed for my major. I said yes. They then said that my admission WILL be rescinded. I wanted to get specific with her and explain my situation but she ended up transferring me to the counseling center. While on the phone with the counseling center, they told me I had to make a flex appointment with a counselor to talk to them about my specific transfer situation. So I get on the website and there isn’t any appointments until June 5th. So I guess i’ll just take the L and reapply for next spring. Since everyone on here has been way more helpful than anyone over there, does anyone know if i should even pay to go that mandatory SOAR on campus workshop? Do I still need to pay to send them my transcripts at the end of the semester? Do I contact CalGrant & FAFSA to let them know I will not be attending anymore?

@ONSOOO A friend of mine called and let them know she is missing three classes that are required for her major. They told her she can do them over summer. But still, get to go to Long Beach that they won’t rescind her offer. So I don’t think anyone really knows for sure. That office is always telling everyone different things. lol what class was it exactly that you need?

@ONSOOO I would definitely sign up for a summer class if you can and they might work with you. I would ask about SOAR because the way it is written on the FAQ section you might be able to attend (if they haven’t rescinded your admission) and not be required to do SOAR again to attend for spring; but its not crystal clear so I’d verify.

I’m really sorry about the bad news @ONSOOO. I’m glad you were able to be helped by everyone else on this forum, though. I personally ended up sticking it through the end and I have 70% chance of passing the final, so that’s why I can’t really give you any advice. If I were in your current position, though, I wouldn’t give up just yet. I’m sure there’s a way to appeal the rescinded admission. I would go to the flex appointment on June 5th and sort everything out. I also would recommend signing up for SOAR, since the deadline is June 1st.

Try your best to keep your admission and don’t lose hope!

Also, @lulu1115 I think we can’t enroll unfortunately, regardless of the June 1st date, because of the hold on our student account. I would love to, though. A lot of the classes I want to take are getting filled, fast.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. @lulu1115 it is a calculus 1 class and I applied as a marketing major. Calculus 1 is required for a business majors. What was your friend’s major and the classes he/she needed? @muzzles I did the Pre-SOAR and have an made my reservation for the in-person workshop already. I’ll just keep trying to talk to different people and see what happens. I’m already enrolled in a summer calculus 1 class at my CC. I guess I’ll just send them my transcripts when it is time and see what they say. @whythefox thank you for the information! I was worried about wasting money on all of this and being rescinded. At least I know my money wont go to waste because I’ll definitely apply next semester again if everything goes south for me. I’ll make sure to keep everyone updated. Good luck on finals everyone! Ya’ll got this!!

Also, when is everyone’s workshop date?? Mine isnt until August and that seems kind of late. I did sign up kind of late so that might be why but i’m still curious to find out what the earliest date was for a workshop.

Congrats to everyone on acceptance. I transferred this spring and just finished my first semester here, let me know if you have any questions, I am majoring in business finance.

@lulu115 hi , so I am transferring in the fall but I have never heard of Gwar? What is that?

@shanwithaplan I know you didn’t ask me lol, but the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) is a requirement that all students must complete to graduate and obtain their degree. You first need to take the GWAR Placement Exam (GPE), which transfer students are urged to take before their first semester at CSULB ends. The GPE is essentially a writing test that tests your English writing abilities, and depending on your score, you will be put on a pathway. You can see the scores and the required pathways here: https://www.csulb.edu/academic-advising/graduation-writing-assessment-requirement-gwar/gwar-guidelines-students. You need to complete these pathway classes in a timely manner, or else you will be put on a registration hold. I also think you have to pay take the test.

TL;DR: It’s a BS writing test that makes you take more English courses before you graduate lol.
