I don’t know…it just seems like a lot of people are still on the extended waitlist. Could be 200-500, I’m not sure. This might have just been the first cut, they may continue to narrow the list down.

My regional rep confirmed the count of 600.

Why do you think they kept so many?

Was wondering the same thing, Big Green. Even if the triple dorm thing went through and opened up the 51 spots, the odds with 600 remaining aren’t very good. I’m hopeful they’ll at least let everyone know something soon. (I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this week.) At the very least, I want this all to be over by the end of the month so we can move on. Being waitlisted is torture.

Not necessarily. The 2014 class is very large (1187) and probably overenrolled in comparison to other classes (~1090). Housing is guaranteeed freshman and sophomore year. Since this is the last year of the no loan initiative, families who would have thought about deferring are no longer going to do so. There will probably have to be some major waitlist movement at the SHYP level in order for spots to open up.

I’m still wondering if anyone’s gotten in yet…

In their extended waitlist email they said they’d contact us within 2 weeks or so. I think it’s been 2 weeks so we’re now in the “so”.

I sent out an email the other day to an admissions representative. I’ll tell you guys what he says. But I don’t think it will be good news.

What else can we do now?

Another spot will be opening up. S accepted spot off of waitlist at Princeton - so will be notifying Dartmouth that he is withdrawing his acceptance. Good luck every one.

So I got the reply email today. The person says that no one has been admitted off yet and that if the number enrolled drops any further they might have to take a miniscule few off the waiting list. Expanding the class by 51, if Hanover allows so, will not significantly impact the waiting list use.

There will be an update email sent to us tomorrow or Friday. I feel it will probably be one closing off the waiting list or cutting the list in half once again.

Thanks. light10491, for following up and letting everyone here know. The news is disappointing albeit not surprising. Good luck to everyone wherever you attend this fall!

“There is a possibility that we will take a very small group of students off of the waiting list, but as of today, we still cannot say if we are definitely going to use the waiting list or not. We should know more within the next week or so, and conclusively by the end of June.”

That’s exactly what my admissions rep told me.

Wondering if most people like me on the waitlist went to public high school. No one from my area who went to a public high school got into Dartmouth RD–all private school admits. Is Dartmouth really not needs blind?

I go to a public high school and there were 2 kids admitted from here. One of those two would’ve received full grants.

I think it is need-blind but it is aware of who can pay and who can’t pay full. This year I think they admitted a lot fewer minorities and first-generation, so they probably accepted a lot of full-pay. They’ll probably take full-pay kids off the waitlist first, among the miniscule few who make it, even though they’re waitlist “need-blind”.

anyone get that email just now? i guess i’m still on the waiting list, but i wasn’t accepted
anyone else here accepted? here’s the email i got:

Dear 314159,

Since our last note to you, the Admissions Committee has continued to monitor Dartmouth’s entering class enrollment closely. In recent days, a very small number of places have opened up in the Class of 2014.

We have reviewed the candidacies of the remaining active applicants on our waiting list and have made offers to fill the few places that have become available. I’m writing to let you know that you were not among this small group of applicants.

It is unlikely that more places in the entering class will become available. However, if we are able to admit additional students, we will once again review our waiting list and reconsider your candidacy. Whether or not more places open, it is our intent to resolve all waiting list candidacies within the next three weeks.

If you would prefer to remove your name from further consideration you are welcome to update your status online:
