At Petsmart last weekend, I was irritated to see a huge display Halloween costumes for your dog right smack in front of the main entrance as people walked in and it was still August. There was no other way to get around but to walk up close.
I actually complimented the manager of my local Target store today as they only had a few Halloween items discreetly placed at the back of the store.
Boo to Dunkin Donuts (Aug. 29th) and McDonalds (Aug. 31st) who brought out their pumpkin spice stuff ahead of Starbucks.
I DID order a pumpkin spice chai latte with soy at Starbucks! It was good - admittedly, I’m a “middle of the road” PS person - like it, but don’t crave it. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin waffles, I’m in! In my drinks…fine, but not over the top about it.
Funny, when I ordered the PS chai latte they STILL asked if I wanted coffee in it too - isn’t the point of chai NOT having coffee!!!
When we transition from summer to fall doesn’t apple season come first or do we just skip it and go to pumpkin season?
I was at the farmers market yesterday sampling all types of apples. For me it is time for apple recipes. As we get closer to Thanksgiving after Halloween is over then I can think of anything pumpkin related. I feel when I go to places like Trader Joes I am bombarded with pumpkin themed food which for me I can only handle is small amounts.
I would also prefer that pumpkin wait it’s turn until at least October. That said, I took a recommendation from @abasket and tried Noosa yoghurt, choosing the pumpkin flavor. Delicious! It satisfied my pumpkin craving for a while now but I’m definitely a Noosa convert… :)>-
ETA: @raclut - I also didn’t appreciate being hit over the head with all things pumpkin when I visitied Trader Joe’s this weekend!
My mom always made the pies for Thanksgiving from scratch - really from scratch - she started with baking our homegrown squash cut side down on a cookie sheet, than scraping out the flesh, removing strings and pureeing it - all because she said it tasted better than actual pumpkin.
I still remember the slightly unpleasant smell of squash baking.
