Purdue is a phenomenal school! Top notch academics all around. Great price. Great campus pride and vibe. I really do think it’s one of the best college values out there. And I believe a Purdue degree really stands out. Congrats!
our school doesn’t rank. Son is OOS 4.2 and 1400 SAT. Waitlisted
School doesn’t rank. 3.9. OOS. TO. Business. Waitlisted.
Sorry to hear that but I sincerely hope she gets even a better opportunity and proves it was Clemson’s loss
Not sure if you are referring to me but yes i have twins.
The first one has been accepted to all colleges she applied
Second one was deferred at Clemson, Univ OF Tennessee, and Ohio State University. The second one today got accepted to Clemson
Just 2 more to go and then decision time.
What major?
There’s the saying “go where you are wanted”. I think that’s easier said for people who get in the school they want. I heard this a lot with our other child who is committed to college for their sport. He waited it out but was offered a spot on his first choice D1 team. He knew he wasn’t the first choice at his position and he had offers at other schools where he was the top choice. So my theory is every kid is different, every path is different so support your kiddo and help them figure out when they should wait and when they should move on. Some kids need closure and other kids are good with holding out even if it means a last minute pivot. Good luck to all!
Well, it’s been fun. I have 3 kids in a row in school so I will be back next year with my final senior. Maybe I will see some of you again.
It’s easier to say because my daughter was offered bridge but I trust that you are put on your path if you have faith. My daughter is still praying for a USC regular acceptance but I trust the path if not
Just want to put this out there for anyone looking at this thread next year. My OOS daughter has a 3.8W and 1330 SAT. She was deferred and then got in for summer, which shocked me TBH (didn’t think she’d get in at all). She showed TONS of interest. We even stopped by the admissions office and had the opportunity to meet her AO when we visited. For Clemson in particular, I think it makes a huge difference. I hope this helps some parents/kiddos next year.
What major?
My son was not accepted this year:
3.28unweighted 4.17w
1310
IB program
Strong essay but not a lot of ECs
OOS with 1 visit to Clemson in Oct.
A genuine congrats to those who got in. This is a tough application season.
Our school also does not rank. Top 30% decile in a school of high achievers. If I had to do over I would submit SATs / ACT as it really does matter despite saying it doesn’t. I also think psychology major played a part. Oh well moving on to other great options.
Thanks everyone for all of the guidance.
Very frustrated here. OOS, 3.8 UW, 1390 SAT, 7 AP, 7 Honors, 1 DE.
Accepted at Ohio State, Auburn (with merit), UW-Madison, TN (with merit), Penn State and FSU. Deferred and waiting at UGA, Michigan and University of Miami.
Deferred at Clemson and now accepted Summer Start (Psychology). We do not understand the Summer Start. 98.6% of the kids that go through that 6 week program are retained with an average GPA of 3.69. In other words, virtually everyone passes it. Is the intent to prove they can do the work? Is the program so miraculous that after 6 weeks they are NOW ready for success in college? Is it a yield play somehow? Is it a money grab? Coincidentally, we got a postcard from Penn State yesterday about LEAP which is heir OPTIONAL summer start program. This feels right to me.
My son, like I am sure many others, had big plans for the Summer and is greatly disheartened by this. He would rather have been waitlisted for Fall then offered Summer Start which apparently cannot be appealed.
Thoughts? What are we missing?
When my DS got summer start back in the 2021 application cycle, there was chatter on that thread about summer start possibly being offered to full pay OOS kids, as a way to bring in tuition money during the otherwise quiet summer months. My DS’s SAT was well above Clemson’s 75% percentile and he had all the “good” AP classes (Calc AB, Calc BC, etc.). We had his counselor call Clemson and were told that this is how they spread out their incoming first year class. Some get summer start, some get fall, others will get spring.
Also just FYI, Penn State’s summer start is required for some admittees. My DS who is applying this year was accepted with mandatory summer start at PSU. Other kids can opt in to it.
My son was also offered Bridge…he is just not interested after personally knowing others who went through the program. Is it actually possible to appeal for summer start?
Clemson does have an appeal process.

My guess is demonstrated interest doesn’t matter - at least the school (like most publics) states this via the CDS.
As for TO, I think more and more schools want to see the tests but until you see recent data it’s hard to know. But two seasons 22/23 CDS) ago Clemson was 70%. Take out athletes likely higher
And summer entry is a revenue and occupancy booster. I think the same of the bridge program - giving residential life fees.
Just a guess. But in the end these are businesses - but a business providing a product many desire. They’ve done a great job in building a brand.
We had a similar experience. Even though some of the blogs say certain schools don’t look at demonstrated interest. We did it anyway.
OOS 1480 SAT waitlisted, so I would say the GPA/rank is a much higher weight. Strong ECs as well, but not in the top 10% of class rank at a competitive school.
