Denison Class of 2024

Accepted with a 25k creative writing scholarship! I applied RD and test-optional after skipping my junior year with a 4.4 GPA and a lot of leadership positions/awards in writing  still too expensive though.

Current parent here – for students who were waitlisted and are very interested in attending, consider submitting letter of continuing interest etc. if that option is available. We have heard senior administrators talk about that, while the number of applications has increased significantly over the past few years, they are not using that increase to simply take higher stat kids in order to bump up on the rankings. Rather, Denison is really looking for students who understand the campus culture of engaging across differences and the importance of civil discourse. So, if you are really interested in Denison for you, then take advantage of any opportunities to let Admissions know how you could contribute to campus. Hang in there, and good luck on your admissions process!

Waitlisted.
31 ACT
3.75 UW/4.1 W
OOS
Comp sci/theatre double major
Unique ECs with deep & lifelong participation
Wrote the supplemental “Why Denison” essay

Went to accept waitlist and saw they want another essay. Ooof.

My disappointment was somewhat tempered by an acceptance to Centre College by snail mail when I got home. Accepted to 13, now waitlisted at 2. Have several terrific merit aid offers, for which I’m super grateful.

Still happy that it wasn’t an outright rejection - letter said Denison had more than 9K applicants. Dang!

Thanks for the advice @Midwestmomofboys - will definitely do more research and carefully craft a LOCI. I really like what I’ve learned about Denison and will probably go visit in March. Congrats to all who got accepted - looks like it was very competitive and you should be proud!

Rejected,

SAT 1490, Math lvl2 800, GPA 3.8
International student who needs financial aid
Wrote the Why Denison essay

Congratulations to everyone who got in. It was my first decision and one of my safer schools, I don’t even know what to expect anymore.

I Got waitlisted. Does anyone know if we waitlisted kids actually have a shot anymore ?

I got accepted today morning !! Alumni award 20k, Denison Grant 28k, and Dension work-study 2K. I got the total financial aid package of 50,000 dollars per year !!

I applied Test optional with a full IB diploma
Had great EC’s and LORs, according to my counselors.
Wrote the essay and didn’t do the interview (although it was offered to me)

Might consider going there
not sure though as it is one of my safer schools.
If anyone wants to know my stats in further detail, let me know!

Congratulations to everyone else who got in! Let me know if you are committing to Denison this fall.

My D got accepted with $25K per year merit. She showed a decent amount of interest, interviewed with her rep when she was here in CO and emailed updates. Stats are good, but not crazy:

3.8W, 4.3UW GPA (very rigorous courseload)
31 ACT (weakest part of app)
Extensive ECs including high level leadership, all-conference athlete, and music
Several National Level Awards/Experiences - NSLI-Y (Amman), BofA Student Leader, USSYP Finalist, US Presidential Scholar Nominee, Coca Cola Semifinalist, etc.

We don’t qualify for financial aid and her stats weren’t super high, so we were pretty pleased with the $25K per year offer. At this point, she’s waiting to find out about a local in-state full-ride scholarship, but if she doesn’t receive that, Denison will probably stay in the mix with this offer

Accepted

@Midwestmomofboys, do you think that could also be yield protection? I’d like to think it is what you say. I’m planning to bring my junior D to visit soon, and I think she’d fit the school culture that they say they’re trying to to build. She’s already very anxious about college admissions. I admit I’m pretty shocked by these waitlists. I’ve been thinking that my D will be a solid match if she gets math scores up just a bit but now I don’t know what to think

S accepted!
SAT 1160 (oops!)
GPA 3.7
Full IB diploma
overseas American
Excellent ECs, essay, and reference letters
Did the ‘Why Denison?’ extra essay.

But disappointed that DU did not offer the aid/grant package he received at other colleges. :frowning:

A little late on the update, but son got in!

SAT 1320, 660 math, 660 verbal
GPA 3.75
6 APs, visited the school and interviewed last spring.
Some extracurriculars and athletics, and Boy Scouts.
Received Alumni Award for $25K/yr.

Congratulations to everyone admitted to the Class of 2024!

@inthegarden On the question about yield protection, I think that some students look at the gpa/test scores and think, “oh, that’s a safety, since my stats make me a credible top 5 LAC applicant.” And, because they think of it as “safe” on the numbers, they don’t take steps to show how they, in particular, are a good fit at Denison and would contribute to campus culture. And then they are shocked that holistic admissions really is, well, holistic. Admissions is quite clear they are not using the increase in apps to “scale up” the gpa/test scores. Their focus remains on identifying kids who want Denison because of the community it is. We’ve met plenty of students who chose Denison over higher ranked schools because of campus culture – neither social justice warrior nor conservative, both athletic AND artsy, great, safe village community yet quick access to an easy in-and-out airport and the state Capital.

@Midwestmomofboys, If that’s truly the culture, I think it suits my D to a “T”.

@inthegarden – feel free to PM me!

My D21 has been on the campus several times and is very much looking forward to her official visit next month.

I was waitlisted–but they said if i got in i would get a 25k/year scholarship??? Does this mean I was yield protected?

I got in- congrats to everyone else too!

3.7 GPA, 1450 SAT.

@Midwestmomofboys Can you possibly PM me? I apparently cannot as I only have 1 post. My daughter has been accepted at Denison and I had a few questions.
