First timer here. Most of the schools DD is interested in DO NOT offer Athletic or Merit Scholarships at all - Only Need Based Aid. Because she is a recruit we will go ED 1 and have been getting Financial Pre Read based on our Net Price Calculator results and by submitting tax returns etc. If you have been through this - or something similar, can you comment as to whether the amount in the Pre read matched what was received in the end? Thanks!!
I think in most cases if your finances are straight forward the NPC (use the colleges) are reasonably accurate. Financial pre reads are usually a bit more involved and can be even more accurate.
If you have gone through those steps (screen shot the results) and the FÃ does not match you do not have to enroll despite applying ED.
I am unclear - are you getting actual prereads from the school’s FA office -that is very different vs using the calculator. If you are getting an official preread from the FA office that should be very accurate.
Keep in mind that aid can change year to year if your income changes.
Recruiting can get more complicated if your athlete needs FA and the school is not need blind. There is only so much money in the bucket and coaches at need aware schools can ask recruits if they are applying for aid. Most schools from what I know (so maybe I am wrong) won’t offer FA prereads for athletes or students and just advise to use their calculator.
If you are getting prereads from
the FA offices, you are very fortunate.
If a college’s financial aid office conducts the pre-read—typically involving submission of tax returns and other documents—then yes, the offer should match. The only exception would be if the information you enter on the CSS Profile or FAFSA differs from what was provided in the pre-read.
