UPDATE: My DD got into UDel nursing, still has to hear about merit. Gonzaga she got offered 27k scholarship, plus Honors that comes with 1800$ . Still too expensive for us. Got into CSU San Marcos, but in alternate major not in nursing. Presumably because the nursing is so impacted and she is not in the area served by the CSUSM, though we are in San Diego. She got rejected from nursing in at Fullerton. Another update: Creighton and Marquette offered an additional scholarship 1.5-2k a year recently.
Has anyone received merit OOS from University of Delaware (UDel) in nursing yet?
Just updated my earlier post - DD just found out she received full tuition from Miami University of Ohio!!
Waiting for the same, denied nursing at CSUSM and CSUF⊠Have several good offers from OOS (Case Western, Creighton, Xavier, Marquette, Duquesne, Simmons, Endicott, Fairfield, ASU and U of A (not direct admit). Wants to stay in state though.
Congratulations!
Congrats on Case Western! Fantastic nursing and overall school. Expensive, thoughâŠ
I am still waiting to hear from UTK about nursing as I got in second choice major⊠I wish there was a more specific time for when those decisions will be released. I will likely commit if accepted
Congratulations! How wonderful!! Decision made?
We have likely had to decide against Miami U (unless something changes.) They only gave her 14k merit and we are OOS. Out of my daughterâs top 5, it is the most expensive by far. We just canât justify it.
That being said, I think we now are down to a top 4: She is hoping for one of the first 2! The wait is definitely hard on those 2.
U of M (deferred/dream school)
MSU Nurse Scholar ( waiting for decision/dream school, but only if in NSP)
WMU (admitted, DA, cheapest by far)
Marquette (admitted, DA, brand new nursing building, have read glowing reviews)
Thank you, I am very proud of her! Excellent school! My DD got awarded 45K in merit scholarship at Case which is basically half of the ride so it is not super-expensive but still expensive .
Sorry for late reply.
My daughter was accepted as ED.
There is no opportunity to choose another university.
We are planning to visit the school at the end of March.
Fortunately, we received good scholarships and school grants, so we only had to pay similar tuition to UC.
And in the case of CWRU, even if nursing isnât for daughter, itâs open to changing majors, so I liked that too.
ASU is also a good school, but it is true that the requirement to maintain credits for two years is burdensome, so I think you will look into good opportunities at other schools and make a careful choice.
Warmest Regards
She liked Miami but didnât love it. I wonât make her go somewhere if we can find a way to pay for someplace else. I think she would be okay there and she hasnât dismissed it. Marquette is still in play as is USC (S. Carolina) and Clemson (although I donât think Clemson will be affordable but I will wait to get the merit $ before we have that conversation).
She applied to Duke ED and was deferred. Highly unlikely sheâll get inâŠbut if she does - everything is up in the air.
Yes, I really liked that for CWRU, that there was no limit of how many students they take into nursing! and they start on clinicals in first semester so you can figure out quickly if you like nursing, and if not, help you to switch majors quickly and still get out in 4 years!
Congratulations for the ED!!!
That is a big plus for CWRU. It was one of the reasons I wanted my daughter to apply but she said Cleveland was too cold and snowy for her Southern sensibility. Cincinnati / Oxford are pretty cold as it is. Iâm not sure what sheâll think of Wisconsin but she doesnât want to rule it out yet (I think that pretzel they sent made a good impression).
LOL! we got a pretzel from Marquette while we were gone for 5 days in Cleveland⊠and it was moldy by the time we got to it! (No one was at home)
Marquette is colder and has more snow and wind than CWRU. We decided to skip Marquette because of the weather though everyone had only great things to say about it. I am sure it is a great nursing school. I felt that Cleveland may have more/better clinical and job opportunities as well as a pretty vibrant cultural life (which is in/near CWRU campus), being bigger cityâŠand Cleveland Clinic (#2 nationally) right across the street from the nursing school. We are from San DiegoâŠ
From what I hear, the issue with Midwest winters is not so much the snow and cold , because once there, you figure out quickly what you need to get , what to do in those situations. Itâs the LONG time of gray skies - months sometimes without seeing the sun. It gets to you. It might be cool in the beginning for Southern people but it gets old really fast. Seasonal depression is a thing (SAD). Windchill is also a thing - big one. When we were in Cleveland windchill dropped the temperature by another 10-15 degrees.
Why duke if she wants nursing? Donât they only have an ABSN degree?
Thatâs a good question. But maybe they were unsure if they wanted nursing or some other health path? In which case prestige and doing a pre-med / bio-med something major there is worth it . To make sure they really want nursing or perhaps medical school. They will have time to shadow and volunteer and intern.
Good luck to your daughter! What major for Duke?
