Direct Entry Nursing for Fall 2024 Admittance

Of course I like Cincinnati, lol. The only thing I know about the Miami program is that it is relatively new (ie it wasn’t around when my daughter was applying in the fall of 2017).

I would look very carefully at MSU, unless you are already direct admit through a program I think is called Nurse Scholar. I have a daughter going there for something else, but there is a lot of angst in the parents FB group when the time comes to try to get into the program. Very competitive - the average GPA for spring 23 admission, which you can find on their webpage, was 3.88. Chem 141 and BS 161, which my STEM daughter also had to take for her major, are pretty hard. But I hear it’s a great program - I don’t want to discourage you, but encourage you to be realistic about anyone’s chances.

Congratulations!

I want to say that Marquette keeps their cohorts typically in the 75-125 student range. However, with the new expanded space in their College of Nursing I would expect them to be able to handle those upper limits better.

Marquette requires students to maintain a C or above (78%). They cannot guarantee that you would not need a vehicle to get to clinicals once those begin (they do have some hospitals nearby but public transportation is not always good).

Project Beyond 2 helps those from underrepresented communities complete a degree in nursing at Marquette.

We are looking at some of the same programs and struggling as well. Have a few visits coming up that I hope will lend clarity. I do think we will strike MSU bc it’s not direct admit. I am also familiar with the competitive nature through friends with students in pre-nursing there and many opt to apply for the accelerated program after getting another degree as it’s less competitive.

Thank you for the info. Yes, my 24 would only conside MSU if they were in the Nurse Scholar program. The pre-nursing sounds too risky to us. I also understand they only take around 15 kids into the Nurse Scholar Program. I do wonder how many kids they offer to get 15, or if they only offer 15 and take how ever many commit out of those.

Thank you for this info. Do you know how far clincals could be from Marquette? This is a top contender for my 24! My 24 does plan to take a car to college. I believe wherever they do its likely they would need one for clincals.

My DD accepted for nursing at Rutgers New Brunswick and Newark (and other schools).
It is very competitive admission. They are well ranked at US News linked below.

Reasonable COA, excellent DEI
high NCLEX pass rate.

I haven’t come across people sharing their experiences with Rutgers nursing on CC forums.
I thought that this forum could be a valuable platform to gather feedback. Thank you.

For Marquette I would say within 30 minutes or so.
And yes, honestly for most colleges of nursing students will need a car (unless there is an extensive public transportation network). Having one or two hospitals near campus does not mean all their clinicals will be there (actually I prefer it if the student gets to see more than one hospital personally).

Congrats on your admission to UC! My daughter has also been accepted into the program. Look at their NCLEX pass rates. Also, when you visit pay close attention to the nursing school facility vs. other nursing schools. They have a beautiful medical school but the nursing school needs to be updated. If there were simulation labs we did not see them. (I know a simulation lab is located elsewhere on campus but it is my understanding that it is for doctors only.) On the bright side, there are many clinical sites close to campus.

I should clarify re: sim labs - I did not see any high-fidelity mannequins on our visit. But they had rooms with very basic mannequins.

Thank you. We are signed up for the 4/6 admitted day as it matches my spring break. We were not able to see specific facilities when we toured in April, but I did enjoy speaking with a few current nursing students.

Hi All,

My daughter got into the direct admit Ohio State BSN yesterday through their Early admission Pathway program. She got admitted to pre nursing on Dec 8 and just got EAP yesterday. I know there have been many great discussion on this board about direct admits that are not true direct admits. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ohio State BSN Early Admissions Pathway. Sounds like this would be a true direct admit now for her, but not sure if there is any fine print I am missing. LOL. I need to look into further, but if anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear your feedback:) Thanks in advance!

My d got this too! What great news! I believe this means they will now not have to apply to the school of nursing-as long as they keep a certain gpa in pre-reqs. Congrats!

@AAAA13 @Ana3 @Larolesama1 — Congrats to your kids! Would you mind posting their stats? I have a future BSN applicant, and am trying to gauge which programs might be within reach and worth adding to her list. Thanks so much.

Can I ask what you mean by “MSU BSN Scholar- deferred (admitted pre-nursing)”?

Did they reach out to you and say her Nurse Scholar application was deferred? My child has not heard back yet from their Nurse Scholar application. I thought it was a late March decision. Any info you have would be great.
