One thing I love that my parents have always told me is be the best you can be in everything. So while being valedictorian, Class president, Varsity Captain, clubs…etc, I put a lot into my appearance.

Do you?

Typically I get up at 5am and go for a run to wake me up. I run 2 miles and it only takes 15 minutes. So then I shower. My hair is curly so sometimes I straighten it. Then, if I haven’t the night before, I pick out my clothes which is usually something “trendy, classy or sophisticated” (whatever you want to call it). I do not wear makeup, I think its awful. Then I eat breakfast and catch the bus at 7.

*Of course there are those days when I wear yoga pants and a sweatshirt. But I don’t wear sweatpants (parents won’t let me) or baggy t shirts to school. And then since I play three varsity sports, I am always in my jersey at least once a week.

Comments?

To answer your question, I do not look my best for school. I have a reputation of being a geek, so it is important that I resist the temptation to dress too modernly (if you know what I mean). I do play on the table tennis team (captain of it actually), so I wear the appropriate attire for that occasion. But, that is about the only time I look somewhat affiliated with the rest of the student body.

Normally I don’t wear sweatpants, becasue I get way too hot - even if it’s in the winter. But, baggy jeans, buttoned up plaid shirts, and pocket protectors usually get me through the day.

Absolutely not haha. I shower, of course, but I never put any effort into styling my hair or putting on makeup. My hair is super thick and curling it takes hours. The only time I curled it was for prom. My hair is fairly straight anyway so I usually just wear it down or in a ponytail. My typical outfit for school is just a shirt of some sort and some skinny jeans. If it’s cold then I’ll throw on a sweatshirt. I have no one to impress at school and I barely get up in time anyway lol. If I know I’m going to a dinner or something then I put more effort.

I make sure I don’t look like a slob, but I don’t super overthink how I look for school xD. I usually just wake up an hour before I want to be at school (I go to school 30 minutes before it starts so I don’t feel rushed). I don’t put on makeup because I also think it’s awful and I shower the night before (my hair just looks better that way).

I jog with my dog after school when I don’t have club meetings or work :).

Wait a minute

“do not look my best for school. I have a reputation of being a geek, so it is important that I resist the temptation to dress too modernly”

You really believe that much into labels?? Wow.

I’m pretty sure I might be different this year. I’m coming up on sophomore year and my classes are way harder than frosh. So, we’ll see how much sleep I get lol. Waking up at 5 is no problem as a freshman, but now I actually have a workload haha.

Lol no, I value sleep too much to wake up earlier to get ready. My hair is pulled back more often then not because it tends to be a mess (I have slightly crazy curly hair) and my usual outfit is jeans and a t-shirt or leggings and a dress. Most of the time I look decent (days where I have a major test/finals season not so much). but I probably only put in effort on the first day/school picture day.

I admire those who actually do put in the effort to look their best (i know some girls who wake up two hours before school for hair, makeup, etc but there are the major trendsetters of the school).

But I personally only wake up bout half an hour to an hour before i leave to do the basics and dress up enough to not look like I just rolled out of bed and put on makeup which takes me bout five minutes since I love my beauty sleep!! :)

My school has this dresscode where we only wear collared shirts so I usually just wear a polo and jeans. I prefer sleep and breakfast so I never do anything fancy with hair or makeup.

Well my school has guidelines, so as a guy I have to wear a collared shirt and there are several restrictions for both genders. I take a shower, but other than that just put on normal clothes, like jeans and whatever collared shirt -or shorts since it’s 100 degrees in Southern California now :/.

You might as well put effort in, as long as it doesn’t get in the way of anything important. My school also has 30 something kids per class and is K-12th, so I guess there isn’t much diversity. It’s also a Christian school, so the student body’s mindset could be slightly different as well from other schools.

Am I the only guy who posted on this? Hmm, I guess a different perspective for op?

I never got into makeup. I couldn’t stand the thought of putting paint on my face and going out in public. My mom never wears makeup and I have 3 older brothers. I don’t criticize people who do though.

I dress nicely and workout and all, but I definitely don’t go the extra mile to impress anyone at my school. I do those things to satisfy me, not anyone else.

I always do. It just makes me feel like I’m going to have a good day. Even if I’m tired I will still try to put effort in my appearance with my clothes, makeup, and hair. I just hate it when other girls “bum” it everyday it’s kind of a pet peeve of mine. To me I feel like if I put on a sweatshirt and sweatpants with my hair in a boring pony tail that I’m just setting myself up for an awful day. You never know what is going to happen during your day so you should look your best for whatever life throws at you. Sometimes when I’m in a super rush for school or for whatever reason on rare days like these I might just not care too much about my appearance but I will always make myself look presentable.

We have a dress code, so clothing we can’t really choose. I always straighten my hair and put on make-up. (I have a baby face, so without it I look 12.) (I shower the night before because it takes forever to dry my hair.) It takes me ~30 minutes.

Yesss. My school is basically a run way show every single day. All the girls try to look good and all the guys try to dress nicely also. There are some random people who don’t wear the same clothing, be it for very restricted financial reasons or that they just don’t want to, and it sounds really shallow, but they are the odd ones out. As far as what I do, I normally take a shower as soon as I get home from school if I’m not doing anything at night. Since I have a lot of hair I wait for it to dry. Sometimes I’ll straighten it before I go to bed, other times I’ll wake up and curl it or straighten it. Either way, it doesn’t take me very long because even though I have a ton of hair, it looks good even if I don’t do anything to it. As a freshmen, sophomore, and for half of junior year I did my makeup either on the bus or at school. I should list it on the Common App as one of my skills because I’m realllly good at doing make-up like that lol. But yeah, I have my own style but I do get all dressed up for school.

No. I’m clean of course and I’m not walking around in sweatpants but I have no desire to look good.
Who am I trying to impress anyways? The teachers like me because work hard , my friends like me because they like my personality and anyone else who isnt impressed with me because I’m me is not going to be won over by makeup.
Now to an internship, work or a volunteer thing? I put a lot more time into it. And only a little because all of the woman try to set me up with their sons :P

I do it for me, not anyone else. I dress nicely because I have enough respect for myself. And I represent not only myself, but my family as well. So therefore, I always do my best to look nice.

I go for comfort, not style. To me, looking good is a) clothes are clean…enough b) they match well enough, as in no stripes with plaid. My favorite combo: solid red shirt, tan shorts. Super comfy, and it works for me.
Fashion just isn’t for me. I don’t understand how all those hipsters do it.

I don’t try to impress anyone, but just because I don’t impress anyone doesn’t mean I go looking ratchet. There’s enough ratchetness at my school for the county. I dress well and wear what I want. If I feel like wearing sweatpants, I’ll wear sweatpants. If I want to wear a dress, I’ll wear a dress.
