Do you think paying for college (no aid at all) increase your chances

I hope the same…

“hey mate…one of my frens got into duke with 1860 SAT paying only about 1000$!!! and another one got into harvard with 1910 SAT paying around 2000$!!! in that sense u have good chances!!! infact very good…where are u from btw??”

how true is this statement? care to elaborate?

it is 100% true…coz i was the unlucky one who didn’t get in while my frens did…

well for internationals like us…u just need to get in into these big universities…fin aid is pretty inevitable

lol i meant elaborate as in what else did they have going for them…if they paid only 1000 that means theyre very poor…did they have excellent ECs/cure cancer/etc or something?

well by Nepalese standards 1000$ per year is a regular one…i mean mostly everyone goes paying at max 5000$…i guess the colleges realize the fact that people from these places can’t pay much…and regarding the qualities that got them…i guess the duke one went due to superior class rank and recommendations and the Harvard one was ‘all rounder’ and supposedly had some alumni links as well

that’s very interesting, since the case of “alumni connections” works only after a certain academic threshold is obtained, such a good SAT scores and grades. but then again a 1900 does not tell the real score…he could’ve scored 1400 (Reading+Math) and 500 on the writing. since the writing is not that important, its an ok score.

but yeah, nothing is for certain. i have a nepali friend who got 980 on the SAT…got 2 interviews then waitlisted at harvard.

really…its even more surprising

Yeah,indeed its very surprising…well,intl_transfer,hope u get in a good one!!!..(with lots of fin.aid…)…

shail, did u apply before completing your high school or r u taking 2 yrs break, or just one? i mean graduated in 2005 or 2006?

thanks sir issac newton, i am targetting harvard :)

i graduated in 2006…had applied for the class of 2010…in my senior year…

intl_transfer:Well,I can see that u hav a great respect for Sir Issac Newton…just imagine that some day we’ll hav a ‘‘SIR’’ behind our names…coz v r actually workin for that…lol…(hope u got the +ve meaning…coz ppl will jump up at any possible -ve meaning they can find…)…

r u jokin cuz i thought i was the lowest around.
and ya abt dat 2 guys its 1005% true. guy who went to duke was my fren’s cousin bro and he was pure geek(i don know much abt dis guy since he was 4rm bnks)

ya he was a geek, no question about it…but no scores showed that…i know coz i was his classmate…i had better grades…(i mean grades not marks) than him on transcript…the only thing he might have had going for his way must have been his rank ( which was 2) and i guess the recos…

I am a physics and maths major  I guess some of you are too… Newton changed the course of physics and maths…

I m applyin for engineering major…so,its a combinations of maths n physics…!!!..

I don’t see anything wrong with you…by the way how long have you been guitaring in US girl…one of my fren said that if you study in a high school in US for more than 3 yrs…you get the same academic scholarships as US students…the policy may vary with institutions…may be that’s only with public institution…check the good state university in your state, if any…in that case…
