i know this sounds really twisted, but this worked for me sometimes last year. after i had cross country & dance, i took a shower & went straight to bed by 8:30 or 9. then, i got up at like 3:30 & did homework, went for a short run & got ready for the next day & went to school.

i know this is really abnormal, but do you think it’s a healthy wayy to go about my schedule? because i was usually too tired to do homework after all the activities.

i agree that this can work sometimes. during the day, sometimes i get distracted by my family and the tv and whatever. but at night, there are fewer distractions and i always have to be really quiet, so there is really nothing to do but work. a number of times last year, i went to bed after school and got up later and did my work. so i slept from like 6 pm to 3 or 4 am. i didnt do it every day though.

Hey- you’re getting 7 hours of sleep; I don’t see any problem with that. I would so do that if I could go to sleep at 8:30.

I have the tendency to stay up 'til 1 or 2 am, then realize “oh crap. I still haven’t written that paper that’s due tomorrow” and I end up staying up until 3 or 4 writing it… Yay 2 hours of sleep!
You’re way sounds a lot better than mine.

I used to do that in junior year because there was no way I could motivate myself to do homework unless it was due in two hours.
So I’d sleep at 8, wake up at 3, and do my homework.
My parents actually encouraged this. They wanted me to get it done. :p

Of course, this also coincided with the time when I was a Really Bad Student and played way too much nethack.

That’s sounds ok, I just wished I could go to sleep at 8:30 or 9:30. I’ve tried to in the past, but it’s just too early for me. I have to do my homework after dinner like most kids and then go to sleep at ~10:30.

I’ve never heard of that kind of schedule before, but as someone else said: if it works, why not? I would never be able to do that, not because I can’t change my sleep schedule, but because I like to know that when I’m doing homework at night, I can stay up as late as I need to finish it. If I were to do it in the morning, I would panic because the deadline is so short and I couldn’t be sure if I would get it all done. But maybe, MAYBE, I will give it a try some day and see how it goes.

As long as you’re getting enough sleep, it’s perfectly healthy.

Wow. I soo used to do that. My friends all made fun of me, but honestly, it was SOO much easier to get AP Physics crap done when it was 3 am and my friends weren’t online.

I did freak out sometimes because I couldn’t get all my work done but then I’d just go in late because I had a useless class first period anyway. Plus, it was easier to do the work when I was wide awake and not exhausted.

I couldn’t possibly wake up at 3:30 without falling right back asleep.
but I couldn’t ever get to sleep at 9:00 either… so I guess if you get adjusted to it, it could work well.

yeahh i think that’s what i’m going to stick to this year…because i’m a huge morning person & i can get to bed really fast also. & it’s reallyy hard for me to do homework after all my activities because i’m exhausted & the computer is a huge distraction when everyone’s on.

I used to wake up really early in the morning to do homework too. After I came back from school, extra-curricular activites, and working out (everyday), I felt so tired. I think I focus better after I have good night’s rest. Then there are those days when an all-nighter is just in order…

School ends for me at 3:20, so then I just do my homework at the library until 5:30, then eat dinner and watch my favorite shows like Lost and the Office and stuff. I do my homework very quickly most of the time, so I have lots of spare time. :D

I actually think this method is great! I should really try it some time… I am always so worn out after a full day of school and activities… it would be great to just go to sleep…
