Done with Powerschool (for now)

That time of the semester again, where at least 2 of my classes grades plummet and I spend weeks pulling them back up! Happened last semester with 2 of my classes and its happening again with pre-calc and APUSH. Rather than checking powerschool 27 times a day, I’m going to avoid powerschool for 3-4 weeks. My theory is that by not seeing my grades I won’t be depressed about my grades all the time and stare at them for hours, and I will do my absolute best in my classes since I won’t be calculating the bare minimum I need to get an A anymore. I might check in occasionally for my other 2 classes to see if there is anything not turned it, but I won’t be analyzing my grades for 5 hours a day anymore. Does anyone see this is a bad plan? I realize not looking at my grades for 3-4 weeks could have some potential issues, but if I don’t find out now whether not checking is better for me, I will find out the hard way next year either way. Oh and to give you all some perspective, I check my powerschool more than I check my instagram and snapchat combined, and spend twice as much time on that as I do watching my favorite tv shows.

You definitely don’t need to check 27 times a day, but not checking for a month could cause you to miss something important. What about once a day?

I mean I guess I could just do once a day but I really want to do another unit test in precalc before I check it again. I REALLY messed up on a test today… it was several pages long and I didn’t finish a page and a half of it. I know its going to TEMPORARILY demolish my grade in that class and I would prefer not to see whatever horrific grade I get every day for 3 weeks, though the next unit test is in 2. Also APUSH is a bit of a struggle since its my first class since biology that runs on almost complete memorization and I would prefer to not see that grade every single day either… on the other hand seeing a lowish APHUGS grade last semester motivated me to clutch that final exam and I ended with an A.

Actually, I agree with you @Ibwamaul I did really poorly on one test that really lowered my grade. I found myself sad so I decided to not check it. I ended up not checking it for a month. I felt better because i didn’t think about my grades all the time. It might work for you too

I’ve already checked it 5-6 times today… Better than 27 but I can do better!

@Ibwamaul
“Why do you always have powerschool open?”

That was a question EVERYONE at my high school used to ask me. I was obsessed. I probably spent more time on powerschool than I did working.

How did I stop? Do all of your homework, even if it is due in a month. Trust me when I say, “You’ll forget about powerschool.”

Also, there is a powerschool app that lets you know when your grade changes so…

I try to do that. The only problem is 5 minutes into my work I immediately open powerschool. I had to edit my powerschool bookmark yesterday and change the link to espn.com so that when I click on it by pure muscle memory I don’t see my grades. I disabled all of the notifications from the app on my phone (I saw my grade drop 4 points for an assignment that just hadn’t been graded yet, but just seeing the notification made me start acting weird at work) for sanity reasons. I wish I could just block the website entirely for a few weeks. I totally understand your obsession though. I had a legitimate caffeine addiction (mountain dew voltage FTW) and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as my itching need to check powerschool.
