Downton Abbey

Anyone else think that baby Sybbie is actually not an attractive little girl at all?

Hot off the presses…

^^

CD–Fun!! especially the Ferris B’s reference which I would never have figured out. FB is one of the greatest shows ever!!

Ok, I wasn’t going to bring it up, but since others have - to me, Sybbie looks a bit odd, like she might have some type of developmental disability (20+ years in special education makes you notice these things) They haven’t alluded to anything like that, so it’s probably not in the plot, but I do wonder about the little actress. I think she’s cute, but just something about her…
We got the season 4 dvd this week, and I am restraining myself, but my daughter watched ahead and keeps throwing hints at me. I might cave, but I promise not to spoil. Is it too obvious for Edith and Tom to marry? I know some have talked about Mary and Tom, but Mary’s now being thrown together with that friend of Evelyn’s, who isn’t very nice at all. I too like Tom and want him to stick around…

@operadivasmom - I see what you mean about Sybbie (played by Ava Mann) though I’m unconvinced it’ll come to a plot line tbh - unless the family want her ‘put away’ (as such children were in those days) and Tom revolts against it.

I just read about Ava Mann, saw other pictures online, etc. and I guess she doesn’t have a developmental disablity (at least not that’s mentioned in interviews with her mother, etc.)

It’s one thing to observe Lord Grantham having old fashioned ideas about women, the British class system, etc. I don’t think the viewers could stomach hearing Lord Grantham’s views about the developmentally delayed.

Re: diagnosing pregnancy…if there were no “rabbit” or other test, why couldn’t the doctor just tell Edith about the “consistency” when she was there. Why a letter?

When we talk about baby Sybbie’s odd affect, remember, we’re talking about an actress who is two years old. I think she’s an adorable toddler.

I enjoyed this episode, particularly the scene with Isabel, Mary and Tom in the nursery.

Probably s simple case of dramatic license. Having her open the letter at home and get weepy about it combined Gregson’s missing in action status made for better drama.

^^^ or perhaps there was something else they were testing her for (although I don’t know what that would be) that might explain her symptoms; if that then came back negative, their default diagnosis would be pregnancy.

I just saw an ad for the movie Winter’s Tale and realised the actress in it is the one who played Sybbie (Mom not baby)

What have I done? I ordered the entire season/series 4 on Amazon Prime and just finished watching it all? Now instead of having to wait until next week, I have to wait until next YEAR! Don’t worry, I’ll keep my mouth shut!

How many episodes are there in a season? In other words, how many more weeks do I have to look forward to this?

VH, there are eight episodes plus the special.

What’s “the special”?

They do a Christmas special in the UK separate from the regular season

Not that it necessarily involves Christmas, but it’s a British thing to have specials of various series during the holidays.

The actress that plays Mary is in the new Liam Neeson movie Non-Stop.
