Downton Abbey

Mrs. Hughes is wonderful - you can see why she has her position. Her response to Baxter’s confession was perfect: “I have one question - does Her Ladyship know?” (Yes) “Then we need not speak of it again.”

So what would Mrs Hughes’ job be today, a woman with her tact and competence?

A judge!

Project manager commanding a six figure salary!

I think she did Mr. Green in, tho in some sort of self defense way.

Didn’t like Mary’s hair either.

Mrs. Hughes won’t marry Carson because then she’d likely no longer be the housekeeper. She likes her job too much.

I will be very surprised if Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes don’t end up married. After the beach scene in last season’s finale, the continuing development of their relationship so far this season, and now his suggestion that they buy a property together, I imagine that that is exactly where it is headed.

How long are they going to drag out poor old Isis dying?

“How long are they going to drag out poor old Isis dying?”

In true Downton plot dragging style: FOREVER. Hitler will have invaded Czechoslovakia by the time they decide to kill off that mutt.

Would be nice to have Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes have a happily ever after. Moseley too with Baxter. And lots of little Bates-ies.

Bates as a dad is sort of scary.

How old do we think Anna is??

And no one has mentioned Violet’s reaction to learning that Rose’s suitor is Jewish. I believe she said, “It’s always something.”

Probably 34?

If the series really ends after next season, I think they will leave it that Carson and Hughes have an understanding.

I actually like Bates. (Perhaps there is something wrong with me.) I totally understand the Anna/Bates thing and find their relationship charming. You like Anna, right? I think she has good judgment in people.

I don’t think Bates is a bad person. It’s just that I got over the silent brooding type when I was about 23.

I think Edith is going to run into Mary’s ex fiance, the newspaper guy (what WAS his name?) in London. They will have a mutual newspaper connection, very logical. Maybe a romantic relationship or maybe just a mutual respect/work friendship.

“Mrs.” Hughes is married to the house, as was expected of a housekeeper back then. Would love to see her marry Carson at the end of the series.

I can’t see how Edith can stay in London and not be found out. Their social circle is pretty well known and although there wasn’t Google, there were phones and gossip. Someone will see her and comment to parent/acquaintance about seeing Edith and her adorable child. In “real life” it would make sense for Edith to stay there only long enough to get financial affairs in order and then move somewhere where she can be an anonymous widow.

I think Edith is past caring about people finding out. She is wealthy, the world is becoming modern. She is going to form new friendships with modern people and not worry what people who knew her before think.

Maybe she can move to Paris and telecommute. @-)

I liked Mary’s ex-fiancee, Carlisle, and thought they belonged together. He’s too ruthless for Edith, though.

Does Edith’s inheritance make her wealthier than Mary? Or did Matthew leave Mary more money? Or do we know?
