Edith is at the point where she doesn’t care what people think. That would make an interesting pair with Carlisle. Since the Khaleesi kicked him out of Game of Thrones, he can come back to DA!
Someone please remind me who Carlisle is.
I think Edith (who I like and think did a great acting job of just looked depleted and crushed this week) should go to America and live with Shirley MacLaine and Uncle. Americans would welcome her and no one would even know about the child left back at the mansion with a nanny.
Carlisle! THAT was his name. (@VeryHappy – he was the newspaper publisher in London engaged to Mary briefly when Matthew was engaged to…to…the one who died of the flu!)
Lavinia
Yes. Poor Lavinia
Thx.
I am very impressed with all of you who can remember everyone’s names. Usually when I can’t remember a name, I’ll google it. But of course, not with Downton The last time I did that, I scrolled past Matthew Crawley’s name and saw, “the late…” so I knew about his upcoming death the entire season.
I’m guessing Edith might stand to become wealthier than the rest of the clan. With the Great Depression around the corner…wonder how it will affect them all. How did the publishing industry fare in England during that time, versus other types of interests?
Good point, @prospect1 ! Maybe LG will have to take in boarders during the Depression, while Edith is busy selling papers!
I made the same mistake with Gregson a couple of weeks ago when I was wondering how old Marigod was. “Marigold, daughter of the late…” Luckily, we discovered he was dead the very next episode, so not much harm done.
I don’t think Matthew had much money. He was a solicitor in a smallish town. His “value” was as heir.
I saw Daisy Lewis (Sarah Bunting) in an episode of Lewis on Masterpiece Mystery. I knew I knew the face, but she had red hair and I didn’t place her. She gets around!
Lergnom, Matthew inherited Lavinia’s father’s wealth when he died, and used the money to save the estate after Robert lost it all in bad railroad investments.
@longrangeplan - I can only hope the show will still be around long enough to get to the Great Depression! I would love to see how they all weather the storm.
Infected ass-cheek: that’s something you don’t see every day!
I Wikied Marigold a few weeks ago so know more that I was looking for…and still has not happened.
No. Spoilers. No hints. Nothing.
@madison85 Pahahahahahaha! I almost spilled my coffee!
Matthew’s inheritance from the late Lavinia was said to be huge, which is why Mary could afford to bankroll Downton Abbey. Edith doesn’t have to worry about money, but I’d be very surprised if Edith was now richer than Mary.
