Downton Abbey

How can it be a real soap opera if all the weddings are off camera?

Patsmom, I noticed Mrs. O’Brien on Happy Valley, too. It took us at least two episodes to figure it out because she looked so different. I really enjoyed Happy Valley.

We didn’t see Mary/Matthew’s wedding??

“It was cheating us to have the scene between Cora and Mrs. Drewe off camera. We all wanted to see that!”

I did too, but I also kind of like how the script is unpredictable and keeps us guessing. Having some of the pivotal scenes played off camera leaves more to the viewer’s imagination.

Wait a minute - I saw Mary and Matthew’s wedding! And it’s on YouTube and “Tom and Lorenzo”!

Did we? I thought one season ended with their being engaged and the next season started with their being married.

I do not remember Mary and Matthew’s wedding ceremony. Did they make a special off season video on it? Do you have a link?

yes we did. Their wedding was the Season 3 premiere: http://hollywoodlife.com/2013/01/06/downton-abbey-recap-mary-matthew-wedding-season-3-episode-1/

OK, looks like some wedding festivities were shown but not the actual ceremony itself:

But we saw Mary and Lord Granvile arrive at the church, and we saw Mary walk down the aisle, and we definitely saw Mary, Lord Granville, and Mr. Carson get all misty-eyed at the house. Didn’t we?

Surely I’m not misremembering everything…

Are we allowed to post YouTube links? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoyL9LrLy0M

Thanks - now I remember

thank god we have youtube and wikis - how did I ever follow Days of Our Lives?

I guess I mis-remembered. But even seeing the Youtube video, I still don’t remember!!

I still don’t remember it either - but it was wonderful to see it now! Thanks for posting!

I remember the church scene less than the crowd scene. I remember that I thought it was weird and very feudal to have all the villagers outside waving flags

I don’t remember their wedding either. Wierd.

I don’t know if this is the case here, but I do know that there are some short scenes that you don’t see on either the UK version, or U.S. version of DA. I think it’s that the U.S. audience sees scenes the UK audience doesn’t. And I know there are some people on this thread who watch the UK version, so does that perhaps explain why some people remember the wedding, and some don’t?

Does anyone know how many episodes are left this season?

One more episode plus the “Christmas Special”
