^^^The GFG, that’s what I heard too.
Rose and Atticus married! That certainly didn’t take long. Mary’s tryst with Tony in London took longer than that.
At least Mrs. Patmore can quit crying. She got her plaque and Daisy who has spouted “my life is a prison! I’m young! I need to live!” for weeks decides to stay a kitchen drudge after all. Huh? Maybe she’ll go to art school instead–that wedding cake was great.
Carson has always taken care of Mary since she was a child. She’s his pet. He’s her substitute dad.
Anna? Did Mary call that lawyer like she said she would? She must have it on speed dial by now. Or were they going to wait until after the wedding? “We’ll talk next Tuesday after things have settled down…”
Mary: “Oh, just let Anna rot–we need to get ready for the wedding. Oh NO! Who is going to dress me?!”
Don’t know how rape victims were treated back then but it sounds like Greene got around. What you wanna bet the police decide it was an accident after somebody with clout steps in? Like the producer who is so bored with this story line that it goes or Fellowes goes…
So Marigold looks like her dad and LG wises up. Kids at that age DO look more like dad He is happy that he isn’t the last to know a secret this time.
Not–“Oh, No!”, “What will the neighbors think?”, “Poor Edith, she must have gone through hell”, “How did she keep it secret for so long and who else knows?” , “Why didn’t you tell me!” but “at least I’m not the last to figure it out”. But I’m sure he is just leaving it up to the “womenfolk” to figure out the gory details. Typical man and just as well. He’s not mad or at least peeved at Cora for not telling him. Huh?
Cora: “Dear, dear. You don’t really want to know.” LG: “Okay. Let’s sell some paintings.”
Thomas didn’t have to be a card shark for the scam. He only needed to know the game. They let you win at first to suck you in. He knew to quit as soon as he made a bit.
Predictions:
Mrs Drewe gets mad at Farmer Drewe and delivers ALL her kids to Downton Abbey. “One is as good as another and four are better than one!” They turn to CC for advice. Farmer Drewe can now afford a new tractor. She presents a babysitting bill to Edith.
Mary gives Tom a Christmas present he can’t refuse. America loses its appeal suddenly.
Cora gives LG a puppy for Christmas. Apollo.
Isobel is snarky to those crummy sons. But not as much as we would like even with Violet’s coaching… So Mary steps in–she’s better at this sort of thing…
Violet throws Count Chocula off her couch. Or at least tells him to go get a decent haircut and trim.
Daisy changes her mind (again) and gets a new job but hates her employer and comes back only to find they’ve hired someone else. But her hollandaise sauce is better. And she still has Moseley’s book.
Moseley asks Baxter out on a date. She says “It’s about time!” He says “Oh my goodness!”.
Did they change Merigold? I thought the girl looked thinner and had lighter hair than previously.
Not sure that’s true, but it doesn’t really matter. I did think Marigold looked a little different last night than in previous episodes.
It was a different kid as far as I could tell. All the kids looked older and A LOT older. But Mrs. Shrimpie had to sail all the way from India so I imagine a fair amount of time passed from last episode to this. Baby George looked practically ready for school in their obligatory moment with the kids.
Actually read a study where kid looks like dad from birth to two years. And then morphs into mom.
As for Marigold? I think that’s a different kid altogether than the one Edith took from the farm.
One of my favorite moments from last night:
Shrimpy’s wife, “Do you have trouble getting help?”
Lady Sinderby, “Not really. But then we’re Jewish so we pay well.”
Oh, snap!
I think Lady S is so used to her cranky old husband that she is good, very good, at putting down cranky people. Even when they’re as evil as Mrs. Shrimpy.
I actually got misty eyed during Rose’s wedding. And the scene with Mrs. Padmore. I rarely get misty eyed!
I also liked Cora’s response to the bigot who pretended to sympathize about with the Granthams about the horrible tragedy of Rose marrying Atticus, an icy “Perhaps you’ve forgotten my father was Jewish.” Cora’s been finding a back bone in the last couple of episodes.
Downton Fashions:

My puzzle about this week’s episode: Why does Cora want Lord Grantham to keep it a secret from Edith that he now knows that Marigold is her child? Wouldn’t you think that Edith would be relieved and happy to learn her father knew and was ok with it instead of living with lies and deception and the fear of disapproval? Perplexing.
^^^ I agree
Cardinal Fang, that was a fun link.

Oh, and this:
Susan MacClare, Marchioness of Flintshire
It’s interesting to see that written out. It sounds like Lady Flincher to me which makes him Shrimpie Flincher. That would be a Wodehousian name if there ever was one - right up there is Gussie Fink-Nottle.
That handsome brunette in the evils with Mary was actor Matthew Goode was it not??? From the Good Wife and Imitation Game. He’s a British hottie.
I will have to,watch again, as I missed Mary with mister x.
Yeah for Cora!
In the evils? Please tell me that’s an autocorrect Freudian Slip!
^^^autocorrect must be channeling Freud! You are funny.
